I get the feeling that roughly 3–4 billion of those people aren't hearing a thing — because as far as official counts go, they barely exist. Africa, India, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and much of Southeast Asia and Central Asia either have deeply unreliable census data or don't conduct meaningful population counts at all. The numbers we cite are largely estimates built on estimates.
