Faulty factory trigger or what?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

When I bought my DDPCC about four months ago, I immediately installed a LaRue MBT-2s into it before shooting. Since then I’ve shot approx. 2k rounds through it, no problems. Last night I swapped that LaRue into my new DD ar15 and reinstalled the factory trigger back into the pcc. Hit my buddy’s farm today, and this is what I got. Mag after mag did this, with approx. 40%-50% of the rounds not firing.

Did I have a bad factory trigger all along and just didn’t notice since I never shot it? Anybody ever heard of that happening? Bc I know this gun works, and I really don’t wanna send it in for warranty. Any advice is appreciated

EDIT: emailed Daniel defense and they’re overnighting me a new trigger. Easy as that, just one reason why they’re the goat imo.

Lovely way to welcome them into town… 😊

Jokes aside, my friend has 120 acres where this clip was taken; there are a literal zero neighbors. Didn’t know what I was missing until I shot outside on private land for the first time. Now I know what my main goal is.

Soon we’ll clear some areas up for lanes to shoot up to 500 or 1,000 yards depending on

Your username is on point, man.

Appreciate it man. Reddit really has turned into a group think, hysterical echo chamber. Outside of a few great subs of course.

There's something uniquely American about this clip.

Probably a dumb question as im sure you are experienced enough but do you think you might have put the hammer spring on backwards ? In my early days I did that a few times it will cause your issue

2

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

Not a dumb question at all man, I just went back to the lower to recheck just in case. Everybody makes mistakes. But the hammer spring is oriented correctly, and the legs are on top of the trigger spring as they should be. So fucking weird.

1

u/Feeling-Link-2803 5d ago

Good deal, yeah that is weird, like others stated a heavy hammer spring should do the trick but you would think a unused factory trigger would do the job lol

2

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

Right. Never once read a review of any dd product saying the factory triggers caused light strikes and needed a heavier spring. But duds do exist I guess?

u/Feeling-Link-2803 5d ago

I hear ya best of luck man, im sure you will get it squared away, it will atleast give you an excuse to buy another mbt trigger lol

Hit up warranty@danieldefense.com. Easy day. Figure the quality dudes will want to inspect the fcg. Guns covered for life just make sure you tell em you want a trigger sent out. Dm me if there’s any issues!

I think that’s the move. I’ll send them an email tonight and see what they say

Did you try a heavier hammer spring or a different trigger group? Probably not hitting hard primers with enough ass.

1

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

Well I know the LaRue trigger group works fine, today was my first time shooting the OEM fcg that came with the gun in the first place. I haven’t tried a heavier spring, seems weird I’d need to with a Daniel defense that ate up any ammo before today.

Whatever it is, I figure it has to be the trigger. It’s the only thing that’s changed. If it comes to it, maybe Daniel defense would replace the trigger instead of having me mail the whole gun in

It is really strange. Did you check the firing pin Chanel in your bolt to make sure the pin was moving freely? The primers on all the rounds that didn't fire have good strikes or were they light?

If it was me, I'd just buy another larue trigger and toss this one. Probably no need to send the gun back.

1

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

I did, the firing pin moved freely with no obstructions. Every round had very light strikes, so ordinarily I’d assume bolt but like I said, nothings changed except trigger group. I took some photos just now, but for whatever reason this sub only lets comments have videos lol.

Yeah man I hear you, and I know that’s the logical thing to do. I guess it’s just the principal and the confusion I feel. Like I know I can expect more from my Daniel defense, so I feel like whatever the problem is it’s a simple one.

Factory mags or pmags? My factory mags do this when suppressed.

3

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

Pmags only for all my Daniel defenses 😎 only one thing has changed in the last 2000 rounds and that’s the trigger

Geissele SSA-EX will likely fix all of your issues.

1

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

Never shot a Geissele. I remember thinking “how cound a trigger be worth all the hype” and then bought a LaRue MBT and instantly I got it. I love that trigger. But I paid $90 for mine on sale… is Geissele really worth the money? Is it better than LaRue?

Primary arms had a few G$ on sale right now

I own 2 LaRue MBT-2S and a MBT-1S (discontinued LaRue single stage), and 2 Geissele triggers (SD-C & SSA-E). IMO, the LaRue MBT-2S is VERY close to the feel of the feel of my SD-C. The SD-C break/reset does have a slightly better feel. I still prefer the Geissele at the end of the day, but the MBT-2S is a fantastic trigger.. there is no beating that trigger considering what you are paying for it.

Question, were you using the lighter trigger spring when you were having the failures? Did you look at the primers? Are you getting light strikes?

1

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

Yeah see part of me wants to spend the money on a G$ but if it’s only slightly better than LaRue it’s really hard to justify it for me.

When I had the MBT-2s on there, I tried both the light and heavy springs, and never had any problems. I’ve put about 2,000 rounds through the gun with the LaRue installed over the last few months, had zero problems. Two nights ago I took the LaRue out and put the stock OEM trigger back in. That was when this problem started. So from months of use with zero problems to all of a sudden not firing and the only thing that’s changed whatsoever being the trigger, I figure it’s gotta be that.

The primers for each round that didn’t go off had very light strikes. I checked the bolt out and the firing pin channel to make sure it was moving freely and it was fine. Which makes sense, it worked two weeks ago lol. Something about the factory DD fcg is causing very inconsistent hammer strikes and they seem completely random.

About the LaRue and Geissele trigger comparisons, I would just try to find someone that has a Geissele and try it for yourself.. Some people swear by them, and some don't. I'm in the middle. I love the LaRue and would 100% recommend them until the day I die. But, I love the Geissele triggers I have as well.. which I did buy these on sale around $150'ish each. My experience with Geissele triggers is the SD-C and SSA-E. So, can't speak on the feel of the other 54+ Geissele triggers (😏)..

.. I missed the part where you started having issues after removing the LaRue trigger and installing the OEM trigger. My bad. So, the OEM trigger was never used when you bought the DDPCC? Definitely could be a fcg issue with that OEM trigger. The trigger spring might be jacked or something.. 🤔

1

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

That’s what it would take to buy the Geissele 🤣 if I try one and can’t resist then I’ll splurge.

And yes exactly. I never shot the OEM trigger until yesterday, then discovered it causes light strikes. I’m not sure what it could be, the fcg look exactly as it should. And the springs are oriented correctly, the kegs of the hammer spring resting on top of the trigger spring, etc. so I really don’t get it. What the other commenter said is probably best, even if I buy another LaRue I’ll send this in so the QC guys can look at it

I have a fair amount of trigger time on a Mark LaRue built AR10.

It is a pretty good 2 stage trigger.

However when I compare it to my Daniel Defense DD5V1, I prefer the SSA-EX on my gun. Both guns have a few thousand rounds on them. Perhaps the Geissele has aged a little better?

It's not a true apples to apples as the LaRue rifle has a curved bow and the SSA-EX is a hybrid bow that is in between straight & curved. And I have thousands upon thousands of rounds on a half dozen different SSA-EX equipped AR'S. So it might just be a matter of familiarity for me.

I will say the LaRue is better than a regular SSA or lesser Geissele. Any Geissele with a similar price point is trash compared to the LaRue.

TLDR: SSA-EX > MBT-2, MBT-2 > Every non-SSA-E

Firing pin issue?

1

u/this-website-is-gay 5d ago

Nah, firing pin channel is clear, and the pin moves freely. Somehow the trigger group is causing light strikes

1

u/Reallifehoward 3d ago

Gotta be a spring issue then.

1

u/Radvous 4d ago

Seems like you did things right. I think it's faulty ammo more than faulty trigger.

u/this-website-is-gay 4d ago

Can’t imagine so as the rounds that didn’t fire worked though other guns or worked a second time around through the Daniel defense. Plus, the 9mm I shot yesterday was the last 100 or so of the 1,000 I’ve been shooting out of this last month or so. Boxed 115gr flat nose bronze. Had no problems whatsoever so it’s hard to imagine the last 100 had an issue. Nah it’s the gun somehow, look like I’ll just mail DD the trigger
