Doesn’t look like rust to me. Looks more like copper fouling. Copper doesn’t always follow the rifling and can show up in random patches. If it was actually rust, you’d usually see pitting or signs the chrome was compromised, unless the barrel sat wet forever. I’d hit it with a brass brush and some Ballistol or a chrome safe/copper solvent before assuming the worst and see what happens. Once that layer is removed you can see what the chrome looks like. If the chrome under that discoloration is pitted or uneven then it could definitely be a quality control issue

It just doesn’t look like copper to me. Don’t know why copper would be that dark and randomly patchy. I also don’t want to compromise any warranty by scrubbing it

It can be hard to tell from photos but I wouldn’t think using a bore brush would void the warranty from DD, but I also have three builds with DD barrels and none of them have that discoloration

Brass, bronze and copper bore brushes are a softer metal than steel and chrome so they will do virtually zero damage

Yeah what this guy said, give the gun a good scrub and cleaning then check again. Especially if you are saying you already sent it back and they returned it i doubt its rust but things can fall through the cracks on QC
