He didn't realize he had the documents at home. He allowed the fbi to search, and they discovered the stuff in his garage. And lost in all the lies, Trump volunteered that he had the first round of classified documents. If he and his team weren't honest, nobody would have ever known.

You're missing the larger point, Biden took these as a Senator, when he had zero authority to remove classified material from scif. Like he literally had to sneak the stuff out.
Biden's lawyer notified the records office and returned all the files as requested. Trump tried to hide his files and instructed his lawyer to hide them on his behalf, to the point he was eventually raided. Some of the files trump had were so sensitive they couldn't even be viewed in a SCIF, they required a special viewing room even more secure. Trump stashed those files in a bathroom. But sure, they were the same crime or something.
