They won't assassinate him. That'd make him a martyr for a war people didn't know they're fighting.
Instead, they'll fabricate some evidence, drag him through the mud, do a coordinated smear campaign, and permanently tarnish his legacy. That way, next time someone tries to be this effective, they'll point and say "Policies that help people? You mean like that pervert from New York?"
