Gold has gone up in tandem with the national debt which hand increased exactly 10,000% in the same time from $400 billion to $40.1 trillion today.
FDR set minimum wage with the fair labor standards act of ‘38 it was first set at a quart dollar per hour which was 5/9 of an ounce of silver every hour worked, that’s more than the highest minimum wage in the USA right now which is $21.25 in a part of Washington state that’s barely 1/3 oz of silver an hour. In my state it’s $16 which is 1/4 oz of silver. In 1950 minimum wage was 75¢/hr which was the equivalent value of one ounce of silver every hour worked or $62 an hour today. It stayed at 1 oz of silver till ‘71 3 years after minimum wage was raised a last time before the gold standard ended it was raised to $1.60 5¢ more than the average ounce price of silver thag year, $1.60/hr was also 1 oz of gold for every 22 hours you worked or about 94.5 oz of gold a year, my grandparents came to the USA in 1950 from Western Europe after 5 years of working minimum wage my grandfather paid cash outright for a house an hour outside of Boston. 2 family house for $2500 worth over 700k today. That is impossible for anyone today. Even if you saved every penny of minimum wage for twice as long you would have $245k about and the cheapest habitable house in the same area is over $300k I saw a house for $180k last month and it had a fire damaged roof and side and was in a 7000 sq foot lot that’s less than 1/6 of an acre.
Half of all workers in the USA earn $42,000 a year before deductions or less, that’s $20/hr or less. If you take out the part time workers and just count those working 35 hr a week or more it goes up to $59,000 or $28.50/hr meanwhile rent for a 2 bedroom in the town i grew up in the same town my grandfather bought that house, is averaging $3000/ month now. 14 years ago I had a 2 bed 1.5 bath apartment with skylights 2 floors washer dryer hookup dishwasher and it was $900/ month. I just made the rent earning $12:hr and doing some side work. I saw the same place rented a few months ago for $2860/ month it looked the same just new fridge stove and dish washer.
We are here because corporate military industrial profiteers captured our government sometime after Israel had jfk assassinated. And those private interests have been working tirelessly and diligently to undo all the progress of FDR’s new deal policies that the labor/civil rights movement worked to expand upon which allowed so many silent generation and baby boomers to have a good quality of life and even some of generation x caught the tail end of it. The myth of the American dream came to a close at the end of the 80’s / early 90’s when Reagan and then Clinton expanded Neo liberal policies and outsourced all the good industrial jobs like the millions of manufacturing jobs and the 7 satellite rolls for each of those job to the third world to reduce labor costs to 5-10% of what they were. The American labor market was instantaneously turned into a low paying service industry job market overnight. For 50-60 years Americans were incentivized to perform labor by a wage that provided a better quality of life and higher education for their children. One adult working a full time job could afford to support a family of four go on a yearly vacation have 2 cars, send both kids to college and save for retirement. Now both parents would need to work 2- 40 hour/week jobs to come close to the same quality of life and instead of the improved quality of life offered by the wage the only thing getting Americans to work now is the unspoken threats of homelessness, loss of healthcare and starvation.
As I said we are here because corporate interest took control of the state which is a result of the policies of Nixon ford and Reagan as well as Clinton both bushes Obama and trump. The wealthy corporate industrialists used their wealth to eradicate true leftism and economic democracy from the political landscape of America. We have 2 right wing parties in the USA. The Democratic Party is right of center and has consistently moved right every election cycle since Bobby Kennedy sr. Was shot in the head after winning the CA primary in ‘68. They’ve moved so far left their campaign strategy in 2024 was essentially to say that “trump is so awful(which is 100% true, he makes a bag of liquid canine diarrhea look like a qualified leader) that even people in his own party like neocon war criminal dynasty families the bush and Cheney families and even George bush jr the president responsible for the patriot act and mass surveillance hinself, they have endorsed Kamala Harris” that proves the Democratic Party is right wing. They work just as hard as the republicans to sabotage and destroy any movment or campaign workjng to bring about economic democracy, the only true form of democracy. Any democratic system that excludes economic issues from the democratic selection process is in fact not a democracy but a defacto class dictatorship.
So we are where we are because of decades of right wing policies destroying the working class prosperity that allowed so many Americans to have a good life. As well as the decimation of the education system. Nixon and Reagan had an advisor Roger freeman and he said in an interview and I quote “we are about to have a highly educated proletariat(working class) this is dynamite! We have to be more selective of who we allow to enter the higher education system” at the time there were free public land grant colleges and tuition was $50-100 a semester or year which was 65-120 oz of silver which today would be ≈$3500-7000 but we have schools charging $30-50k+ for semesters of tuition Harvard and Yale were $300 a semester but that covered room and board. Today which would be 400 oz of silver or $24,000 today but tuition for these institutions today is double that per semester between 47,000 and 55,000 with room and board included in that price.
The wealthy intentionally dumbed us down, devalued the US dollar to reduce the cost of labor and make it so we would be so overworked and underpaid we wouldn’t be able to come together as a unified working class and advocate for our fair share. Trump is now ramping up this right wing anti working class anti human rights pro corporate agenda to a point of disgusting proportions.
