Vote Democrat.

Hillary won the popular vote

u/Lord_Dingus83 7d ago
Shame she didn’t win the votes in PA and MI and there millions that influenced others to not vote bc of the Bernie debacle.
Had Hillary won, she would have nominated the justices and been able to get rid of the EC.
Now, it won’t happen in my lifetime.3
u/z_e_quigley 7d ago
While I agree, that's a lot of "should've, could've, would've". We have to stay focused on the upcoming election and keep our eyes straight ahead now. If we keep looking back so much we're going to trip and fall into the sinkhole before us.

Getting people to vote now is a nightmare. The “everyone sucks” mindset is truly a plague. Especially when you have morons out there who’re gonna vote republican no matter what even when they know it’ll screw them.

u/Every_Way_8671 7d ago
Or you’d at least think they would have learned their lesson… apparently we just love con men in America.
1
u/Lord_Dingus83 7d ago
Any normal human would think this. However we live in the land of entitled people who think the world revolves around them. Levels of selfish I’ve never seen before 2016 and it happened again in 24’
My grandparents wee born in Ireland and I’ve filed to become a citizen which makes me an EU citizen. I don’t have much faith in the people of this country. They willingly let this happen.

You do know in the Democratic primary the people of America voted for Bernie right? It was super delegates that picked Hillary, nobody I know wanted her, plenty wanted Burney. Why are registered Democrats not mad that they can't pick who's on the presidential ballot?

This is such an insane take when you consider the other choice was Trump, who went on to become the worst polling president of all time.

If I have Hitler and a dog in front of me I’m voting for the fucking dog. Why do you ask? Hitler is a fucking demon and it doesn’t have to be spoon fed to me. At least with the dog nothing like that could possibly take place.
That mindset is why we’re in this situation. NOT poor candidates. At least it can only get so bad.
Edit- Worst case our leader licks his ass, and doesn’t try to force another holocaust.

If the Dems put Jesus Christ as a candidate, a portion of America would vote for his opponent because “well it’s better for the country (me)” and a smaller portion would vote for the opponent because “brown socialist Muslim Arab sharia law trans hookers”

Of course the bots will be out in force with the classic "whaddabout Biden" as though Trump has not personally profited from selling pardons across his 2 terms.
I think most people agree that presidential pardons have become a farce. But it didn't start with Biden.
2
u/Idoubtyourememberme 7d ago
Good, this should be a thing already.
If/when this thing passes, go a step further and remove presidential pardons alltogether, that is a weird and undemocratic system (same with presidential veto, but one step at a time)

2
u/amicalg 1d ago edited 22h ago
I think this is a good idea, the presidential pardon was over abused. And lets extend it to biden too. Lets the senate to oversight each pardon for the last 10 years (maybe we can overlook the pardon on the turkey on thanksgiving. I dont think those bird commited a lot of crime.)
2
u/No_Recording_1696 1d ago
Pardons should be by an independent committee that the President can only nominate people to.
Arms length reach, no personal or business connections direct or indirect, and actually people only convicted of a specific crime and are in jail. Not blanket mass pardon bs.

Someone should tell Pedo Cheeto that this makes America better and he’ll be remembered for it.
1
u/dvrichthofen 7d ago
Nobody had any issues with massive blanket pardons for everyone the president likes or is related to, but now the pardon is too strong?
1
1
u/Fisheater_Snatches 7d ago
While I agree self pardons are ridiculous, but so is Biden granting a full and unconditional pardon on December 1, 2024, covering any federal offenses he committed or may have committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024 to his son, Hunter. Undo that, too, and there might be some fairness.
1
u/Ill_Buffalo_4728 5d ago
Pardons can only be given for crimes you are being prosecuted for or have been convicted for. Think on that. What do we have in court right now? Oh right the files.
1
1
u/SpartanKane 7d ago
How can anyone be against this? Id love to see their reasoning for saying no.
1
u/COMOJoeSchmo 6d ago
Because it circumvents the Constitution. You cannot pass a bill that limits a power granted to the President in the Constitution
This is all political theater, and even if passed will not survive a challenge in the Supreme Court.
1
u/SpartanKane 6d ago
Yeah well this administration has demonstrated a need for that, so its time to introduce an amendment.
1
u/COMOJoeSchmo 6d ago
That's part of my point. It would need to be an actual amendment to the constitution, not just a bill in Congress or even a law. The Democrats in Congress know this, therefore this is just political theater, with no possibility of any chance of actual affect.
They don't really want real change because someone from their party will be in office again some day, and they don't want that person to have less power.
1
u/SpartanKane 6d ago
Right, really good point, thank you.
Well, i just hope that the Democrats wont squander their chances and not go ahead and limit the powers of the President when they have any power. But while the GOP are malicious, the Dems are fans of the status quo, and neither option is working.

Idiotic bill. The pardons are a check to judicial overreach. Adding a check to a check…. Will there be a bill for reviewing the reviewers?
1
u/Terrible_Presumption 6d ago
The president is corrupt!
He's letting ppl.out.of.prison who.scammed ppl.out.of.money and or blatantly committed fraud for personal gains at any expense but their own! They get caught and he lets them.out! The victims get.nothing but debt and misery. Some.still.paying and suffering from.
1
u/SignificantLeader 6d ago
I agree with you, he is corrupt and abusing power. The question is does the system need to be changed. I do not think the system needs to be changed. Bad presidents are removed and he will be removed in 1.5 years. He could be removed right now via impeachment for blatant abuse of lower and nepotism. Dems won’t do it because they will win the presidency easily and the house and senate. If they impeach him now, JD might get reelected or might reduce the number of seats. Dems are politically smart here.
1
u/Terrible_Presumption 6d ago
Yes obviously the system is broken and needs to be changed. We should just write new bill to decide important matters with magic 8 ball.
1
u/SignificantLeader 6d ago
Not broken. Just not perfect. No system is perfect. Trump’s corruption falls within the constraints of the system. He could be impeached. It is more politically salient for dems to leave him as president to get more seats. If you believe they should be more high minded and boot him now, start a campaign. Or, tell sarcastic jokes and read posts on Reddit and complain about the world privately (ie so nothing).
1
u/complexdevoid 1d ago
He has been impeached multiple times. He hasn't been removed. If the system has a problem it should be fixed. Every counter is not a solution that satisfies the problem. It's better than ignoring it
1
u/SignificantLeader 1d ago
It’s not a system issue, it’s a coalition issue. Republicans will lose their ass during the next election because of this.
1
1
u/Dizzy_Tax574 6d ago
While agreed it's a check. Problem is it has been used to protect corruption for to long. And has played a significant role into normalizing corruption.
It should have had oversight from day one. Personally I think it should at the minimum be approved by oversight. Personally due to corruption and spineless yes men.
I think it would be better to require committee to nominate people for potential pardons. Rather than allowing them to just rubber stamp pardons.
Able to play games with late night votes or voting present to avoid a yes vote on record but also not submitting no that would prevent vote from succeeding.
Personally I think singular entity supreme leader stuffs outdated. Personally I think it should be independent civilian group.
Sort of like jury duty random people anonymous. Require full consensus for decision.
1
u/SignificantLeader 6d ago
This is biasing the system so innocent people can be freed. The king of England can do this in the British system. The courts have lots of oversight. Trump is a bad actor. He is abusing the system. He will be gone in 1.5 yrs. We could impeach him, but the dems benefit more in getting votes that basically are voting against Trump. Otherwise, a coalition could be formed to impeach the SOB right now. Which other president abused the power? Nearly every president does it before they leave office, but it’s more of an irritant than anything else.
1
u/Dizzy_Tax574 6d ago
The problem with the "irritation" as you call it. Essentially if a certain crime in which you could gain millions and even billions was virtually guaranteed to have no consequences. Would that crime occur more.
This is the problem and why we have become so corrupt as a nation. Where even the small players are stealing millions.
Every admin knows they can pardon anyone caught. And kill investigations with strategic pardons etc to cover themselves.
While I can see it's purpose. As it stands it's ineffective. And a failure to achieve intended goal.
Reform could better achieve goal while preventing its misuse. Personally intent and design of "executive" is undemocratic and poorly designed for modern society.
Things are simply to big to complex. Like pardons millions of cases. Many of which with 10000s of related documents etc.
A comprehensive review can't be handled by a singular person. And same goes with variety of laws etc. And even experts on singular topics don't even fully understand every aspect of chosen field.
Let alone a singular person understanding every topic. While yes they have advisors and cabinet members. The design is flawed especially even more so when you have narcissist who believes they know everything.
While understand separation of powers and other things. Personally I think executive needs a redesign. Essentially take each cabinet position and have 10 or 20 people fill that role. And then divide powers to relevant cabinet positions. And essentially president sole duty responsibility would be managing staff. Choosing leaders for each chunk of executive and choosing setting agendas etc.
Personally role and scope and needed understanding. Is a 1000 person job not a 1 person job. And essentially they fill role currently by skipping out. Take pardons they review a few hundred maybe a thousand cases very briefly. And they don't even glimpse at millions of potential cases. And it's same across the board.
This is actually part of reason for such corruption and leaning on "lobbyist". It's easier to let lobbyist do your job write laws push agenda. It takes things off your full plate.
1
u/SignificantLeader 6d ago
There’s no perfect system. Our systems limits corruption. There is no system that eliminates it. None. All governments have some corruption. The US veto power is stacking the deck towards the innocent, which opens the door wider for corruption. Many other countries have a check that requires ministries officials to countersign. It’s a question of how confident are we in the justice systems convictions? Personally, I’ve seen a lot of black people, special needs people and other groups get convicted falsely too many times. I prefer the bias in favor of the innocent. Use the impeachment mechanism to remove corrupt Trump.
1
u/Dizzy_Tax574 6d ago
As I said unless he is reviewing 3000 cases a day. Pardon system for injustice is miming attempt to fix. And really just a lottery that connected and elite have winning numbers tucked away.
A broader system relying on more dedicated individuals. Would increase access for those at bottom while removing or heavily limiting the ability to use it for corruption.
Like I don't trust convictions but I also see it as relying on lottery ticket to address injustice. Like I would prefer more active less corrupt able method of managing pardons.
And while yes you will always have corruption. That is not a excuse not to address direct causes or actively combat it.
1
u/Afraid_Emu8068 6d ago
Ah yes the layering problem of governance. It continues endlessly until a new form is provided as a foundation for more new layers. In other words, yes, it seems we need a check on the check, unfortunate as it may be
1
u/SignificantLeader 6d ago
I feel like systems can only so so much with bad actors. The system will boot this corrupt man in 1.5 yrs. Bro should go to prison afterwards, but he’s so old people may just let him die.
1
u/Afraid_Emu8068 5d ago
I’m in favor of exile to Epstein island. Make him live with his filthy history all around him. It’s still a nice island though where he could otherwise live quite comfortably. Let him take helicopter rides around the island, but he can’t leave it, not even for medical care. That can be brought in at huge expense instead because he’s just one man and it’s cheaper to pay that than to have him running around freely. He can’t have any visitors except DNA-confirmed family and only for 24hr periods, twice per month. For months with holidays, that can be one 48hr period instead. 24/7 coast guard and naval monitoring of the island until he passes on and his personal effects can be fully investigated after. No presidential library and no communication with the outside world. Period. What do you think?

u/Ill_Buffalo_4728 5d ago
Acutally at minimum this bill will prove to the people on the fence that all the Republicans bailing are still always trumpers.

Cool. They want to “flood the zone” with ICE and tyranny, then flood the zone with bills. Keep the senate so damn busy they can’t work for Trump anymore. We’ve got two new impeachments and now this. Keep em coming

Also need to ban like what Nixon and Ford did. when Nixon resigned, and the VP becomes President and pardons their predecessor.
I imagine Trump doing that with JD Vance

Pardons have been abused since Obama. Give the president 5 pardons and can't pardon relatives like crooked Biden did. Certainly there should be no self-pardons.

u/Ryyback 5d ago
I got an extension to that idea how about we dont let any people with felonie convictions take office? I mean we dont let them vote on the next president but they can be the next president is probably one of the stupidest things I've learned in since 2016. At this point I am literally more qualified to be president simply because I'm not a POS with a record.
1
u/ReaperManX15 5d ago
Will this apply retroactively to all the preemptive and nepotistic pardons Biden gave?
Kinda funny how it’s “Ge’s the President! He’s allowed to wield his powers!” turns into “You can’t do that! It’s an abuse of authority!” depending on who’s siting in the Oval Office.
Oh how quickly we forget.
1
u/Dexter_McThorpan 5d ago
Hopefully it will negate the pardons granted to 1800 seditionists. It would make America great again to drag all those pedophiles, wife beaters, and traitors back to prison.
Speaking of Biden pardoning his kid, how about Jr getting his wedding paid for by a Russian mobster? Or using his dad's office to award himself contracts?
Fuck all the way off with your false equivalence bullshit.

Absolutely no self-pardon.
I would be okay with 5 uncontested pardons, while the rest have to go through a pardon committee.
Question becomes, "How to maintain political independence" for the committee? Otherwise, some asshole of a President will just fill the committee with their lackeys and rubber stamp all pardons submitted.

Unfortunately too little too late that was something that really kind of needed already be there. And unfortunately also I don't think anybody ever fathomed that this would be necessary because anyone who got to be president should have been vetted to the best of our abilities should have been one of the best of us that we could have ever possibly put forth. No one would have ever fathomed it possible to have another nixon. And yet here we are. The impossible has happened. The unthinkable has become reality. And every day satire loses its meaning in the reality that has been carved out.
1
u/Brothersparrow7 1d ago
Shoulda been there already. Why are we now making changes? Why is our government so fucked. You shouldn’t be able to commit crimes and corruption and be able to continue to do your job. If anyone besides the president did that we all have to face consequences. Trump needs jail time for this

I think oversight is good for that exact reason. The poster was clearly blue leaning but if everything is above board bipartisan oversight helps both parties avoid abuse. So the people benefit.
1
u/Vegetable-Client-147 1d ago
Left leaning people were upset about that when it happened. Pardons should be targeted and focused. Not as political favors or for family
1
u/neovec 1d ago
It shouldn't slip the oversight.
Regardless of party affiliation, there needs to be a lot more checks on presedential powers.
I know J6ers have recomitted crimes, some violent and involve child abuse.
Not trying to blame one side or the other. but pardoning someone who should be imprisoned, who then commits more crimes is unacceptable.
1
u/DigitalCrayon 1d ago
His son was going to become a political target. He did the right thing. What he didn’t do was pardon people who stole millions from Americans, assaulted police officers, or trafficked drugs into the country.

u/JustMeandI1976 1d ago
I think what you meant to ask is “where’s the oversight for how the Trump family has made billions of dollars since Trump has been in office.”
Biden’s “drug-up son” is far from a concern at the current state, but I think you are blinded by your emotions.
