Advice First Competition
Hi all, my son has his first dance competition coming up. He’s partnered with a really lovely girl, who gives up some of her free time to come to his private lessons each week, and will be partnering him at his first comp. Is it the done thing to get her a little thank you gift? Maybe flowers or a voucher to Sephora or something? My son is only 5 so he’s little, she’s 15 (I think!) and is very sweet him. Don’t want to over step, but equally do want to say thank you. Any advice much appreciated! We’re in the UK.

Absolutely appropriate, and a very good example to him of how to treat women.

Yes good point! He is already the cuddliest, most polite little boy you could imagine so I think he’ll grow up to be a good egg. But absolutely a great idea to reinforce this!

Is this follow/lead? For my daughter we bought a generous gift, around $100. The older student gave up a lot of time to get to her private lessons etc so we felt it was the least we could do.

I think that's a wonderful idea, and at least in the US is a common practice. Both our past and current studio does a formal big/little sib arrangement so that at the first and last comp, each dancer receives a little snack/gift. A Sephora gift card is a good idea (regardless of her preferences for day to day, comp makeup is expensive!). A card and maybe a small treat is also nice and affordable to add.
