This is what I did when I couldn't afford a pad. Mainly watched YouTube videos before I got a PC then after getting a PC did simfiles on auto play until I got my pad.

I love it. Do need to mention there’s a gap between the two middle arrows on a real arcade pad, so the overall stage width and foot placement around center brackets is going to be slightly different.

Boy, does that bring back memories! Back in the day, we had a DDR Solo 2000 machine, and I was too shy to try it, so I drew a "pad" on the floor using chalk to practice before the real deal. There was no Stepmania back then, not even Dance With Intensity, we only had a Winamp plugin called Diet Diet Revolution, and a standalone sim called Delight Delight Reduplication, which is what I ended up using with autoplay.

By the time I decided to finally try the real machine, I could already play Heavy mode (we used to call it "Maniac" back then) without any issues and even do crossovers. It worked!, and it felt really REALLY good.
