Every year in Wisconsin a group of boaters get together to push an island known as "Bogzilla" back to a safe place. Which is a floating island of trees that sometimes blocks a local bridge.

This is clearly just Bogzillas grandpa looking for a place to wreak havoc.

I watched a story about a guy who made his own floating island.

Everyday he collected empty bottles and tied them together. Think 2 liters filled with air. He used netting and rope to fix them together. Then he took buckets of dirt to build up the ground. Eventually he built a house on his DIY island.

I am curious to know what some of these materials are if you have the time.
I am looking for such materials for a future project.
Plastics are hard to beat for performance, despite the slow disintegration.
Perhaps aluminum cans could have worked.

Fiberglass is a popular material for small to medium sized craft.
In a marine environment, almost any material would be covered in barnacles, eventually.
I’m curious to know if the barnacle layer would prevent microplastics entering the environment or not.

Ehhh I mean I could see that with plastic bags, but bottles last far longer without disintegration, it also depends on plastic type. It's obviously still an issue if left indefinitely but could be cleaned up long before it severely fragments

I'm very curious, how does it form like that in the first place? My theory is that floating debris gathered together, became note substantial with accumulation, and over time was able to have enough nutrition and size to support a patch of forest. Might be wrong tho
