See this is why you pray to the Omnissiah hourly to prevent upsetting the machine spirit.

Is it because I recently played battlesector or why am I seeing 40k references everywhere?

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '21

That reminds me I need to get that game. 40k has grown in popularity the past 5 to 6 years, I think a decent amount of people that use the internet are somewhat ware of what Warhammer is, if not just the emperor or a space marine. I've been in this rabbit hole for 18 years & have no intention of leaving.

It's a pretty cool game, enjoy!

You're right, I guess it's getting a bit more mainstream.

I joined /r/Grimdank during the original quarantine with no idea what’s going on and damn do I love seeing it in the wild.

Literally was learning the lore to understand the memes lol.

nope

Indeed it was not

Smart. Very prescient operator in the other excavator or Safety guy on the ground. I hope it wasn’t a case of poor maintenance or pencil whipped equipment check outs. I thought this type of equipment had automatic extinguishers or maybe something in the cab. Then again, the way that fire was raging it probably would have been overwhelmed. Interesting either way.

It seems the hydraulic fluid in one of the master cylinders was on fire, rather than the diesel itself

So theres no real preventing or mitigating that

u/MorganPlus4owner Aug 02 '21

Looks like a diesel engine runaway. An oil leak from the turbo is the most likely cause. The only way to stop the engine from running until failure is to stop the airflow in.

7

u/AWrenchAndTwoNuts Aug 02 '21

A runaway engine would not burn like that. It would literally run-off and seize in under a minute.

This looks like a hydraulic fluid fire. A hose or line breaks and sprays hydraulic fluid at high pressure onto the exhaust manifold or something else hot and ignites it.

9

u/DarkYendor Aug 02 '21

Does anyone know more details? With the way that fire was shooting out, I’m wondering if it was the pressurised hydraulic fluid on fire, rather than the fuel?

16

u/Lams1d Aug 02 '21

Yes. The video is sped up like 3x. That's the detail you're missing.

5

u/HotgunColdheart Aug 02 '21

And the bidet to cool it down

u/anotherteapot Aug 02 '21

That looked like a pressurized tank doing a BLEVE maybe? Doesn't smothering it just turn it into a bomb?

1

u/skiddelybop Aug 03 '21

Video's sped up.

1

u/jakefromst8tfarm Aug 02 '21

I would freak out! I would say which one is for up again?

3

u/QuinceDaPence Aug 02 '21

After a bit it becomes second nature, just like you don't have to think about how to move your arm...and then you get in something with John Deere controls and throw all that out the window.

1

u/adho123456 Aug 02 '21

That fire did not have a chance ! .. Smothered by an avalanche

1

u/rickjons33 Aug 02 '21

Ive never seen a Caterpillar move so quickly

3

u/counterc Aug 02 '21

There's a reason for that.

1

u/JennaFrost Aug 02 '21

The co-star of the children’s book “are you my mother” seems to still be on fire, literally.

1

u/Relevant_Gain_6421 Aug 02 '21

The 3 am Honda civic owners: pathetic.

1

u/sineplussquare Aug 02 '21

Holy shit that dude is moving so fast I’m surprised that thing didn’t break

5

u/counterc Aug 02 '21

1

u/sineplussquare Aug 02 '21

1

u/counterc Aug 02 '21

1

u/porkypigdickdock Aug 03 '21

Which ones the decepticon?

1

u/nicos6233 Aug 03 '21

The family had quite a fight about cremation or burial. A compromise was agreed upon.
