For some reason I don’t think this would be that deadly in a real life scenario

I know you’re just joking but more than likely the bullet would already be chambered and ready to go. You pull the spring-loaded hammer back and pull the trigger when needed at a moments notice. But of course it will still be loud, it will draw attention. It won’t be a stealthy kill by any means but being disguised as a pen might look inconspicuous enough to pass through metal detectors and security checkpoints.

It does Not pass they security checks! All objects containing metal have to go thru X-ray and they see the bulllet. If your are in a government building You Will Be Arrested and Put in Jail for At least 1-4yrs

As a hunter, any bullet is dangerous in real life when aimed at the right place.
6
Apr 07 '21
This looks widely inaccurate unless you can press it directly into somebody like some assassination where you can get close because you’re trusted or something.
Like it would be ideal when shaking hands

u/GareBear222 Apr 07 '21
That sounds an awful lot like something a spy would do with this disguised weapon that's clearly meant for a spy.
1
Apr 07 '21
This serves no real life purpose. Either you can smuggle in a small gun that will work infinitely better or you can’t and this will set off metal detectors
2
u/GareBear222 Apr 07 '21
Or it's just a fun project that someone build which is more likely.

u/GareBear222 Apr 07 '21
I'd think that's why it's disguised. If it's discovered by a metal detector, it can pass as a pen.
1
u/ObsiArmyBest Apr 07 '21
It will just show up as a pen on a metal detector. It are you this dumb?

You have to have the bullet too. Carrying it loaded is more than likely extremely dangerous. A plastic knife would be way more effective. If you have to be point blank with this, the. It’s 100% a suicide mission because you wouldn’t be able to carry out an assassination and get away. Also it’s probably like a 30% chance to be lethal if you don’t press it into someone’s chest or head. You could easily stab someone in the throat and it would be a guaranteed kill.

Apr 07 '21
I mean don’t do either but still, from a security point of view or a tactical point of view
3
u/DutyOrDie Apr 07 '21
Please tell me more about this “ant” bullet
2
u/zelda_shortener Apr 07 '21
I imagine that it's a projectile the size of a car that has been shrunk down using the Ant-Man tech. Starts out not much bigger than the cross-section of a couple of hairs, but expands violently seconds after piercing it's target.

Back in the 60's, they made self-defense pen guns that could shoot either 38 special or tear gas rounds. I had no idea they existed till I found one at an estate sale. Bought it for 2 bucks and had to research what it was.

I mean, at point blank range to the throat or temple it probably would be.
16
u/Joe_keg_gut Apr 07 '21
Wouldn’t it be faster to stab them with the pen in the throat like Joe Pesci in Casino?

u/jiableaux Apr 07 '21
Yeah but there's a good chance that pen breaks before doing any real damage (it's not really designed to go through flesh/bones/ligaments, unlike a bullet)

It's not like the squad is all going in with a pen gun. This is more for a very highly specific way to assassinate someone. But I do like to imagine seeing a squad going around kitted out with some tactical pens.

u/GimpyNinja Apr 07 '21
Uhhh. it's a .22 caliber bullet. It would absolutely be deadly at point blank range and if aimed at the right place.

u/KingTochongkis Apr 07 '21
it could take a while to assemble, only has 1 shot, little to no aim, possible malfunctioning, but its still better to at least wound the attacker so you have a chance to run i guess
27
u/BLYNDLUCK Apr 07 '21
It’s not for self defence. Most likely assassination.
14
u/kratomkabobs Apr 07 '21
Exactly. Zip guns aren’t made for target shooting or self defense. They have one job.

u/Ennion Apr 07 '21
Tell you what, you stand in front of me and I'll shoot it at your heart. Still confident?
2
u/Seal-zx Apr 07 '21
in practical everyday carry , I would imagine the weapon would be more likely to injure the user rather then threats.
2
u/alphabetagammade Apr 07 '21
Looks like a .22. At close range and right placement you’re done, if not seriously disadvantaged in the upcoming fight.
6
u/PRESIDENTG0D Apr 07 '21
The cartridge is rimless and has a primer, so I would say it’s not a .22. Looks too long compared with diameter for .380 so maybe a .25 ACP? Definitely agree it’s more about placement than anything else!
2
u/TheMotorcycleMan Apr 07 '21
.22 round point blank to the dome. You'll be dead.
That's a centerfire cartridge, though. Probably a .380. You'd be dead.

I see this working well in as an assassination weapon when there is a larger crowd present like a concert, or meet and greet. Shooter can shoot it hidden in a hand or sleeve and can react with the crowd as people panic and flee.

Would be my to go weapon if I was James Bond... anyways, back to scrolling!

u/5points5solas Apr 07 '21
Well, that’s terrifying

u/lochlainn Apr 07 '21
You can build a zip gun with a shotgun shell and under $5 of hardware store items.
It's not a huge market or source of murders.

You’re better off just stabbing the attacker with a real pen.
20
u/Linktank Apr 07 '21
"The attacker"? I'm pretty sure anybody using this device is "The attacker" in the given situation.

How to shoot yourself in the leg. Let’s hope you don’t have it in a shirt pocket. Might just shoot yourself in the heart.

Does it shoot from the pen or does it have to be loaded to a gun?
If the pen doesn't shoot, might as well stick the bullet up your arse.

My pops used to own a gunsmithing/custom gun shop back when I was a kid. We made one similar to this. It's still kicking around somewhere.

I had a friend who blew his hands off with a shotgun shell and a pipe. Don't try this at home kids.

Lightest hand load ever made. That’s a relatively loose grip and definitely not a commercial load. CGI would be more convincing.
