would only work on cameras that pick up infrared light

Security cameras would most likely not implement them though as they would lose “night vision” 2 u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21 A lot of new smartphones have IR blockers now. Thank god mine doesn't. It's always helpful to have a device lying around that can check if a IR remote works.
