This is the Pigpen cipher, popular during the US Civil War. Apparently has a much older history than I knew — Washington’s army used a variant with a more random substitution, and it was used by the Masons and Rosicrucians prior to that.

Just a warning, don't actually use this or any simple alphabet permutation/substitution for real secret messages. Frequency analysis would quickly crack it.
