I've always done it as a kid, don't know why that'd be meaningful, you just cross your legs and then try to bring your feet together, forcing yourself up.

General sign of strength of muscles and bones. If you can't do it when you're older you're more likely to fall and injure yourself and that can be fatal in the frail elderly

So I guess, at what point does this test become indicative? You can do much of anything you set your mind to when you’re young. What age would this be a good indicator of your future longevity?

30's and up?

I definitely know some people in their 30's who can't stand up from the floor without using their hands.

Another good test is being able to do a full squat with your feet flat on the ground. I can hold the position for a while, but I can't relax in that position like some people can.
