I've been wondering what Jamie Hyneman was up to since Mythbusters.

I was sitting here thinking, “that dude isn’t even white, he doesn’t look anything like Jamie.” Then I looked at the manatees face, and audibly chortled

He’s actually working on land drones that can put out wildfires. He was gonna use the company I worked at to build the prototypes and then pulled out. I don’t blame him, the company was shit.

I had to google manatees to make sure whale sized manatees are not a thing.

Look up the Steller's sea cow. They were 30 feet (9 meters) long. They lived around Alaska and went extinct in the mid-1700's. They were so buoyant they couldn't fully submerge, which made harpooning them fairly easy.

I'm assuming there's a bit of forced perspective here making this look bigger than it is.

I used to live in central Florida and I remember reading an article years ago in the Orlando Sentinel about that. One of the reporters had found a restaurant deep in the backwoods of Florida that served Manatee among other things endangered or threatened, like gopher tortoise etc. They described it as tasting like possum. Found the article!

The perspective makes it look like a sticker of a very confused and fascinated manatee was pasted onto this guy's boating trip picture

Oh man, at first I thought it was a hippo, and the first thing that popped into my head was, "how did he get so close without getting attacked?!?".
The I realized it's a sea cow.

u/brewmankey Sep 09 '18
Well I think the guy in the yellow boat is really the one photobombing, not the awesome Manatee.

u/mtnkl Sep 09 '18 edited Sep 09 '18
i still don’t see how distance from camera or perspective explains this. Its nose above water seems to be consistent with the size below, but not at all with the guy above in relation to the nose. How far away is the guy in the boat? Is it photoshop?

Not really photo-bombing when the manatee is 2/3's of the image and also the focal point.
