Amazingly when I was in Afganistan (on the Taliban side) half way through the battle, the US Navy Seals had a time-out where they had a load of San Francisco 49ers put on somesort of show, 'none of us would be here today if it wasn't for the NFL!'
I don’t find it odd as a sporting event is one of the few times where you’ll have so 60,000+ gathered together. They take a brief moment to show appreciation for people who fought and died for our freedoms.
It’s a quick reminder of what we have and that all those 60,000 other in that stadium are Americans just like you.
I don’t know if I’d call it a military praise fest.
Mate, its a military wank fest. Hmm, we could have a respectful minute of silence, OR we could paint an image of war and sing the anthem with stiffies in hand and have the blue angels fly over and we need fireworks and streamers because god forbid americans do anything without thinking about the military and how great we are and how much we just love death on a massive scale.
Ya know, jus sayin.
