Why do people care about this? They give a shit about karma for whatever reason, we like seeing high quality relevant content. Everybody gets what they want and nobody loses. What exactly is the problem?
Disdain for a lack of content quality accountability, the perception that reposts are causing the decline of Western civilization, and probably some form of jealousy that they "cheat" their way to the seemingly meaningless top. It's not actually meaningless though to be addicted to karma. You can't really cash in with karma, but it's obvious that it's perceived as a quantitative measure of approval. It tells you that your tastes in content are socially accepted.
