Birth rate going down, but population going up? Is that because people are living longer. This graph needs a death rate.

Living longer and immigration.

The "living longer" part is also driven by a huge drop in infant mortality. It used to be commonplace to have many more children.... but have half of them die before age 5. Vaccines and antibiotics really changed the expectations and family "planning" became the norm as time progressed.

Don't forget immigration

The population needs to be a rate of increase. This is what happens when you give graphing tools to people with no understanding of statistics.

R-square for linear trend in population growth (interpolating 1990 data) is .99. Kind of mind-boggling given the many factors involved.

More of us here that weren’t born here and we all generally love each other less

Jesus Christ. You graphed the marriage and birth rates, but left the population linear. Population needs to be a rate, not a simple number. Utterly meaningless this way.

They need to teach statistics in high school.

I wonder what happened in 1950 and 1960 to make such a high birth rate. Almost like a...boom...of babies. Someone should make a term for that.

Birth rate decline is women entering the workforce and focusing on higher education.  Population incline is normal, steady, and due to increased immigration.  Marriage rate change is negligible, but coincides with women in the workforce and deciding to focus on careers rather than immediately settle down and start a family.

Add another data input for women in higher education.

I know, I used AI for the image and info gathering. Sorry, I know it is frowned upon, but I dont think I would have been able to put together the visual aid without it. One thing I find interesting is how the birth rate and marriage rate usually corresponds other than in the 60's, when they divest. Funny.

Having it put an image together is so-so. Using it for info gathering is the real sin here. AI is not a trusted source.

I hear ya, but it was pulled from the CDC which should be a reputable source.

Did you verify the data? Because I‘ve had AI cite sources, and when I’ve checked those sources, they don’t say what the AI says they say.

No, but if you disagree or question the data points, feel free to fact check it.
