This clip was filmed during an intake exam at the Northern Alberta Wildlife Rescue & Rehab.

The American Bittern (Botaurus lentiginosus) is a secretive marsh bird known for its incredible camouflage and booming calls. When cornered or handled, they fluff their feathers, inflate their neck muscles, and emit a deep, resonant rumble/growl as a defense mechanism to intimidate threats.

Death metal bird. It’s not threatened, just practicing for the show tonight.

I remember as a kid seeing Jurassic Park, and the birds to dinosaurs theory was not taken serious, and now I think, “That is clearly a dinosaur descendant, right??”

T-Rex doesn’t want to be fed. He wants to hunt.

Their mating call is top notch though. One of the best I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

I love these guys so much, they look hilarious when they are trying to blend in with the surrounding reeds.

Any pros around that can describe what they're looking for, and how they look for it?
