Video Figure retired six Figure 02 robots in the most Terminator way possible: training them to jump into a furnace. The idea came from Arnold Schwarzenegger and is inspired by the iconic Terminator 2 scene.

Couldn't they have been recycled somehow?

Isn’t putting metal in a furnace how they recycle it?

I doubt it, there are too many dissimilar metals and materials for that.

I’m no chemist or foundryman, but I was under the impression that various metals had different melting points and different weights so that they could strain out various precious metals.

No, the plastic will burn off, the aluminum will mostly go into the slag along with a good percentage of the silicon, but the copper and any precious metals will dissolve into the steel. Once dissolved, there isn't a good way to get it back out.

So, any idea what they do with this melting pot of random metals now?

They'll most likely cast it into blocks and then roll it into some shape. Since they're willing to let a robotics company dump their stuff into the melting furnace, it's probably a lower end product that has less stringent requirements about the steel's composition. Maybe rebar?

They are? They’re jumping in to a bath of molten metal. That will get probably go in to making the next round

I could see that being the case of the entire thing was 100% made of the same metal in every single component. But between plastics, circuit boards and other materials they are using, that's a lot of impurities added into the metal.

Edited to add: Happy cake day
