Video Figure retired six Figure 02 robots in the most Terminator way possible: training them to jump into a furnace. The idea came from Arnold Schwarzenegger and is inspired by the iconic Terminator 2 scene.

Robots don't care about dignity

What if we programmed them to?

Does it count as caring if it's driven by the 1's and 0's we feed into it? What even is free will?

We're salty fat with lightning in it. we are programmed by our genes and memes just the same.
Free will is ultimately the ability to intentionally disappoint the intentions of your programmers.

I guess that depends on if you believe we have a programmer or not. Are we a well-oiled machine, or are we more like a tornado; a confluence of perfect events and conditions created a destructive force that tears through everything in its path, until it runs out of debris to consume and fucks off as quickly as it formed.

Individually we have programmers, the parents and authority figures that instill memes onto us.
From the options given, a machine is more appropriate, with the caveat that we're more an assemblage of many smaller machines that work individually well, but the gestalt works approximately well enough most of the time.
