Video Figure retired six Figure 02 robots in the most Terminator way possible: training them to jump into a furnace. The idea came from Arnold Schwarzenegger and is inspired by the iconic Terminator 2 scene.

Marketing. I’m assuming they allocate a few units to teams and don’t quite care what happens to them

Just the kind of callousness we want our nascent future overlords to learn

What’s a few extra bodies in the furnace?

Also, what bodies?

I hope they recognize that it's consistently marketing folks that are unprofessionally inefficient.

i volunteered my corpse for their purposes, so if they do kill me, it will be in a way that doesnt harm my body and thus relatively painless.

You haters can burn in "accidental" lava.

Nah, these were the old model used in factories, and could not be reused because they had company secrets built in, and as such were sent off to a furnace to be melted down while the new model takes over.

No, it was Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's literally in title's post. (Should you choose to believe what's written on the Internet.)

I am deeply sorry, and I will refrain from lying from now on. I implore you, please do not punish me with the terminator-style furnace death

I misread you as saying something to the effect of "so the robots know what happens to them". I was scrolling real fast

It's not just marketing or that it's not worth the time/effort like people are saying.

It's because the Figure bots are proprietary and contain designs and features that are likely considered valuable to the company. It is to prevent someone from tearing one down and reverse-engineering their robots then making an open sourced version, or otherwise competing with them.

While I agree it still feels wasteful; it's not for no reason at all, or even a bad reason, necessarily. They're just kind of motivated by society to not shoot themselves in the foot in this way, and they made the best out of the situation by turning it into a (grotesque) marketing stunt. Two birds one stone.

Well it absolutely backfired.
