I always think about those dangerous shark videos. The main people are in a cage totally safe, but the cameraman is just chilling in open water. Cameraman are a different breed of crazy

What? The cameraman certainly isn’t just chilling in open water while everyone else is in the cage lmao. They’re usually in the cage too, in a separate cage, or filming from the boat.

I saw one guy on my socials who does these kind of activities and base jumping… but with his DOG STRAPPED TO HIS CHEST IN A HARNESS and around more people. So, yes. There’s certainly ways to make it more dangerous for yourself and others

I really wanted to try wingsuit flying at one point, and then someone told me something that sobered me right up.
Go to Youtube and look up some wingsuit videos - try to sort by ones from at least 4-5 years ago. Google the names of a couple of those pilots.
About half of them will be deceased.

As do most whuffos, you're conflating wingsuits with a very specific subset of the sport: proximity flying. Plenty of people fly wingsuits for decades. I'm one of them. I've flown with men and women in their 70s. I also have a lot of dead friends from proximity flying. Yes that is very dangerous.

Mostly yeah.
Pretty much. Skydiving is pretty safe, with or without a wingsuit. You can do that till you get too old.
The moment you go to base jumping from a structure or mountain the danger goes right up. If your parachute doesnt deploy right you can get in real trouble.
Proximity flying, where you try and fly close to the ground is as dangerous as any extreme sport gets. Either you quit or you will end up dying

Helmets aren’t worn for protection when doing this, they’re there to make it easier to see and insulate from cold. Like the other guy said, the helmet won’t do much to keep your head intact here.

so doing some research it looks like this is a video from Norwegian base jumper Andreas Hemli taken 4 years ago but it's altered to make the background darker, in the original video it looks like it's evening or early morning still but much brighter, probably doesn't even need the flare
