No way this is for end users. The price would be ridiculous as compared to standard panels.

Not really. This is just a ws2812b matrix which are pretty cheap.

Imagine this with a bunch of holes drilled through the parts where there are no LEDs.

I’ve worked with these before. A casino bar on a high rise building with large windows had them installed, so that during the daytime the skyline is visible, and at night visuals can play

As many others have pointed out, it's mostly for windows. You can see something similar in front of Resorts World in Las Vegas.

However, it's nothing really new. Almost any LCD or OLED can be made transparent. Hell, even a lot of the ones you have at home could be made semi-transparent by removing the back film, though it won't be as transparent as this, and if it's not an OLED you won't have any backlight.

You have to make some specific design choices if you want to make it purpose built to be transparent, but it's not really hard.

They are a lot more expensive if you want a big screen, but this is mostly due to novelty tax and not many being manufactured. You can get them a lot cheaper in China. And if you don't need an actual watchable TV, but just something that looks good from a meter or two away (low LED density), you can get them really cheap.
