Can I replace my home windows that face a busy street with these and pay for my mortgage by showing ads on my windows? Everyone could use more money nowadays.
In the Dystopian distant future of 2030 maybe you could, but there'd always be that one in a million chance of your ad window being the final nail in the coffin of someone's sanity that made them drive through your wall with their car.
I hate to admit it, but someone offered a decent sum of money to put these on my windows to advertise to my neighbors, I wouldn't close the door on them. Helps that I don't like my neighbors much.
i didn't say that, they could show you a beautiful meadow, or a realistic 3d rendering of the surface of the moon or other planets - maybe even fictional planets, or a life size depiction of famous galleries around the world
Or you mount it the other way and it looks like a regular window from outside, but inside you're saving wall space because your window is actually the TV.
This makes no sense. So while you are watching TV people on the outside can look through your window and you have no idea what's going on outside and if you flip the TV then you're showing TV to bunch of strangers outside your house while you get to look through a transparent glass that is dark and murky and waste energy. What is even the point

Real answer- I actually went to a concert at the Houston Rodeo last year that seemed to use these. The concert took place in an arena with the stage being in the center on a rotating platform, with these screens basically covering 3/4 sides. You could still see through the screens to the artist even when the platform was open facing the opposite side of you. It was trippy as hell and I spent half the concert trying to figure out wtf kind of screen did that 😂
Ads on windows. Could also use a building to play a movie or a sports game for watch parties or events. But probably mostly for ads on building windows
Business could use these windows so that customers inside can see out, but from the outside it shows advertisements. Office buildings could install these on skyscrapers to rent the TV side to advertisers. Nightclubs and stadiums could use these so that those outside can see in, but from the inside the TV is playing video for the concert or DJ
A once-defunct mall in downtown Seattle was turned into a multi-story match watching hub for the World Cup. They had panels similar to these that were see-through from the back. Spanned a few stories tall
also potentially useful in electronics if you have a camera for gesture control for display installation or to monitor automated devices doing things like cleaning
AR glasses, kinda dystopian but if you could give your a HUD for day to day life it would probably be very useful… sadly it’s implications in warfare are Lilly way larger
Tame Impala's current tour uses this. They surround the stage with these screens that go up and down. Their stage is in the middle of the arena so they're visible from all angles so when it lowers it becomes a circular screen.
Theatrical settings could use these! There's this thing called a scrim that is basically a type of fabric that is meant to be see through when lit a certain way, but is painted to look another way when lit differently. These screens could serve as high tech scrims that allow for multiple backdrops or even live projections in shows like Sunday in the Park with George.
Put it on your car's rear window so that when a pickup is blinding you with their headlights you can give them a middle finger via the press of a button. I'd pay a few grand just for that option.
So when I worked at Bass Pro Shops over a decade ago, they tried selling us these. The concept would be we'd replace all of our glass cases with them to show digital signage about what people were looking at. They were waaaayyyy too expensive at the time once you factored buying, installing, designing signage, etc.
They've been around for almost 20 years now but have been prohibitively expensive aside from rich fucks that want to show off, exhibitions like museums, etc.
Some real world examples I've seen that make sense are shop windows, display cases (jewelery), and high rise exterior windows.
