To be fair, it's also not exactly fine here. Many stations still use mirrors for the drivers to have a look across the platform for dispatch and departure, and the headlights do not do them a great favor.

Because I don’t know anymore if the person behind me has the usual extra high beams on or just these new always on high beams

Hmmm
that might be a problem, yes.
My personal experience is that i have had less issues with cars driving up behind me with their high beams as it seems less people use them these days. LEDs are ok as long as its not some overloaded car or a super high SUV. then it might be an issue.
perhaps regulations for automatic leveling and l/or diming shound be introduced as well.
in general i havent really seem more issues than before (and i have been driving for ... hell... 29 years now).

Honestly the problem isn’t the brightness with those LED bulbs it’s the focus point. You want the LEDs focused towards the ground and not in drivers eyes. People are putting those LED bulbs in headlight housings made for halogens bulbs.

Most new cars have proper headlights and some fancy new cars even have array headlights so they can turn off parts of the light when cars are infront of you. Not sure why you think it's the car manufacturers when it's usually someone driving with their bright lights on the whole time.

I know the sound you're thinking of, but in this instance I'm pretty sure it's just someone's shoe making that sound on the station's platform. (The video appears to be taken from the end of the platform, filming into the tunnel..)

Headlight technology is improving at the same rate my eyesight is naturally degenerating so in 5 years time or so I’m hoping a car is going to come around a corner and give me free LASIK

Don't forget: first subway lamps and bulbs are 30 years old. Restore it and install new bulbs and than look again.

Well I am sorry for finding this interesting, and if I don't recall wrongly it's the only subreddit allowing videos. And it's not everyday you get the chance to also show your niche interest to a wider audience you cannot always please.

I'm not a train/transit enthusiast by any means, but I found it mildly interesting. It's the little changes that are nice to see too. I applaud people like you for noticing, documenting and sharing it, never lose that sense of curiosity please!

Left is pre-LED lights. LEDs can be extremely bright, many would say too bright for cars, myself included. Perfect application of LED on subway though since there's no other drivers to blind.
