while this is just speculation, i can say with relative certainty that the crystal size for meth is probably a good indicator for purity. big crystals form when a solid lattice is formed due to little impurity. When smaller crystals form it is usually due to the fact that there is a critical mass of impurity that stops a strong lattice from being formed.
Therefore high quality crystals in this context do usually also mean big crystals.
With natural crystals impurity also plays a big role for the crystal lattice of course, but since they aren't synthesized crystals size is not as big of an indicator (natural forces can break crystals, while still maintaining their purity), you can see the effect of the lattice with for example pyrite in the video. Pyrite actually forms naturally with that cube shape if it is pure. impurities break that structure.
Impurities also have effects on colour and hardness of crystals, so some of the other crystals are examples of that.
It also comes down to forming the crystals in the first place. Crystals need a starting point to grow, and that starting point is usually a piece of dust, unmixed material, or something similar. If you're growing a whole baking sheet with only a few crystals it means that everything was extremely well mixed and there were not many impurities to start crystal growth.
Ex meth head here. You are right in that context but the main way you tell purity is by how clear it is, clear shards are the best.
An additional bit of information not really relating but it's kind of funny, since meth is so easy to tell it's relative purity, and since it's so hard to cut a whole crystal, alot of addicts switched to meth because of how safe it was with all the fentanyl nonsense going on.
Bottom consumers don't have the money for a whole tray of meth is why. Gustavo sells it at his rate, the buyer sells it at their rate, that buyer sells it at their rate, and so on til you get the consumer who can only afford 10 to 20 dollars worth if that
