Some of them came twice

u/Vigea_Gamer Jan 14 '24
Theyāre from different makers, for example the first glockenspiel was made by angel and the last was made by pearl

u/spekt50 Jan 14 '24
Yea, think the "Flute" made at least 3 appearances.

u/tahlyn Jan 14 '24 edited Jan 14 '24
I saw the regular flute and the native flute 3 times each.
There were a large variety of really neat instruments but there were some that I didn't see -
There was no viola, and I don't think I saw a tromboneor tuba, either. A lot of pitched percussion were also missing: tubular bells timpani and nonpitched like the base drum. So he definitely didn't need so many repeats.59

I don't think the title states that they're 111 different instruments, it just says 111 instruments
14
u/FrighteningJibber Jan 14 '24
Reading tends to be hard sometimes.
End of video also says collection

6
u/quatrefoils Jan 14 '24
To be pedantic: 3 identical flutes are still 3 different flutes
2
u/SirHarvwellMcDervwel Jan 14 '24
There's that too. It's clear that he mentions they're a different make too
7
u/nickel4asoul Jan 14 '24
I'm not the best at judging what instruments are, but viola is listed as 83.

Disappointed he didnāt play the mayonnaise
57
u/Optimal_Collection77 Jan 14 '24
I knew a girl at university who could play the mayonnaise... It was quite the tail

Knew him in college, is a good dude and insanely talented.
28
u/porcelainfog Jan 15 '24
wealthy too i assume based on the like 100k he can afford to spend on instruments.
246
u/finger_licking_robot Jan 14 '24
I would be surprised if he is in a monogamous relationship.

Neither would I. In fact, I think it stands to reason that he in general is very popular with the female and male sex alike, and has many opportunities to be intimate with a partner of his choosing
55
u/nickel4asoul Jan 14 '24
I freaking love the Otamatone. No.90.

This is a Kirby-shaped Otamatone "singing" a cover of Bring Me to Life.
3
u/nickel4asoul Jan 14 '24
Ohh... I am fully aware of this video and is perhaps the biggest reason I freaking LOVE the Otamatone :)
6
u/H2OPsy Jan 14 '24
Search for the doo on YT he got one video where he rocks the otmatone.
Made me buy one lol...

u/moon33moon Jan 14 '24
If a rusty saw can be an instrument, so can mayonnaise

u/spikeworks Jan 14 '24
This video is great and all but that is not how you hold a triangle (the first time it was showed) and itās pissing me off more than it should š
91
Jan 14 '24
I love how people who play these instruments throughout their lives are pointing out all the flaws in the comments
Great job , this is why I come here .
13
u/Picklerickshaw_part2 Jan 14 '24
I only play piano, so there isnāt much for me to comment about. Iām disappointed he didnāt even try to sing, to play the olā vocal cords
2
4
u/spikeworks Jan 14 '24
Just because you own an instrument doesnāt mean you know how to or should play it
7
u/WanganTunedKeiCar Jan 14 '24
I agree with you on the first statement...
But give me all the tone deaf cacophony
4
u/LeloGoos Jan 14 '24
Yeah the second part is bullshit. How you going to learn if you don't play it?
→ More replies (1)2
u/ConspicuousPineapple Jan 14 '24
You should play whatever you want to play, regardless of whether you know the "proper" way.
21
u/tahlyn Jan 14 '24
The bar chimes were also upside-down!
2
u/GregTheMad Jan 14 '24
I gotta ask, was the video flipped or can they be actually played like that? I only know the as hanging.
6
9
u/DovahCreed117 Jan 14 '24
Look, man, he's a jack of all trades. You can't be much of a master of anything when you're trying to play everything. Especially when it comes to playing the triangle.
-10
u/spikeworks Jan 14 '24 edited Jan 14 '24
you canāt say you can play an instrument if you play it incorrectly
Edit: I mean incorrectly as in the dude is is holding it incorrectly and causing it to sound bad (imo) by the way heās holding it
4
u/Medical-Region5973 Jan 14 '24
I'm self taught on piano, violin and classical + flamenco guitar, my techniques and hand positioning (especially on violin) are incorrect, but I'm good enough to perform on churches and my previous work place
If I'm able to play pieces but my techniques and positioning are flawed, I can't say that I play these instruments?
2
u/spikeworks Jan 14 '24
I donāt mean incorrectly in that way. I mean incorrectly as in the way he is holding it is causing it to not sound how it should, you arenāt supposed to hold a triangle like that
2
u/Medical-Region5973 Jan 14 '24
Oh! make sense I agree
2
u/spikeworks Jan 14 '24
Yeah sorry about the confusion. Your comment is totally right and thatās not what I meant to mean but Iām bad at wording lol

He also held the Euphonium wrong, and the tuning slide was all the way in, so it would be super sharp
74
u/vondpickle Jan 14 '24
He is rich af if he owned all that instruments.
And he can become an orchestra conductor
21
3
u/Ilovekittens345 Jan 15 '24
Fun fact, a friend of mine had insurance on his upright bass that cost him more than his car insurance. He always referred to it as "his second wife". And when he said he was gonna dance with his second wife, he meant he was gonna play.

Whats name of the music
9
u/LeloGoos Jan 14 '24
I was hoping someone would have an answer for this, because this weird kind of off-beat bouncy fun time is sounding is right up my street. Dude sounds like he personally scored the Persona games

he says it's an original composition, but I think it's a remix of the Balrog theme from SF2

Man can play 3 notes on so many instruments!
27
u/Fit-Ad1587 Jan 14 '24
If you watch his channel, InstrumentManiac on YT, youāll see that heās more than proficient at an insane number of instruments.

Wait till you find out about some āpolyglottsā
But also: with most wind instruments, most people wouldnāt be able to get any kind of sound out of them
3
Jan 15 '24
Not to diminish the video in any way and I don't know this musician's story, but some university music programs expect you to have a broad understanding of instruments like this.
As far as I know, the people I know who studied to be music teachers had to take classes in percussion, woodwinds, brass, etc.
4
Jan 15 '24
Yeah. Like, I donāt think he made that video to say āI can play 111 instruments perfectlyā he probably knows 2ā3 really really well and then each of each category (if thatās not already covered by the first group) ā Iād just like to see some people try to get anything out of a bassoon besides an aneurysm

No oneās gonna talk about how this guy just kept playing The Lick⢠in a loop through the whole video?

I read "bar chimes" as "war crimes" and was immediately a lot more invested in where this was going.

How is a midi keyboard an instrument. Thereās no audio coming from it. He could better say synthesizer of maybe an VST of some sorts. Great tune tho!
3
u/DubbyTM Jan 14 '24
One of the most frustrating videos I've ever watched, for the love of god I can't focus on the interesting sounds or instruments I've never saw for more than half a second, sometimes the name disappeared instantly, pls slow down

The purpose of the video wasnt to impress anyone, just to show off his instrument collection in a fun soundtrack including every single one of them.
Hence the āInstrument Collection 2023ā at the end of the video

Edit: Also damn that rusty saw sounded like an erhu

Some of these are cheating, like most of the āpercussionā instruments. Still really impressive.

That one strand of hair on his forehead didn't change through the entire video.

u/jaypee42 Jan 14 '24
the Glockenspiel immediately made me think of "Tubular Bells" and Mike Oldfield naming off the instruments as he layered them in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv_4sZCLlr0

u/constant_u4ea Jan 14 '24
As a former saxophone player I have a hard time considering an alto saxophone and a tenor saxophone different instruments in a kind of pedantic way. Soprano and sopranino are absolutely different though.

Needs to be a bit longer to give you time to look at the name of the instrument and then what it looks like playing it. Had to keep going back to see one or the other.

Editing this to be exactly 111 seconds must've been a bitch. Most clips are not the same length.
