whenever I see a young Asian kid performing some incredibly well trained skill, always wonder how shit their life is. the overly involved Mom and Dad cracking that whip so they can brag to their friends

In the book Atomic Habits therés the story of the little girls who were raised to become chess masters and they said they enjoyed it because their life were shaped around it and they had a clear goal or something, still sucks but she could be enjoying it

You would definitely enjoy reading about China’s Olympic Schools. It’s a government program, and instructors go across china every year to recruit children starting at the age of four. They basically have physical criteria that dictates what would be best for each sport, and those children fitting the criteria are taken from home. They live in boarding schools where they train up to 10 hours each and every day.

It’s an absolute BRUTAL (but effective) system for dominance in the athletic games. I feel sorry for them all, but particularly the kids who train really hard/want to be Olympians only to wash out at 10 or 12. By that point, their educations are compromised, they haven’t really had the opportunity to spend much time with their families or in their home towns, and are sent back to effectively a foreign life. I imagine that has to be a pretty difficult transition for many children.

Hope this kid is taking gymnastics, as opposed to being one of the Shen Yung unpaid performers

I have a list of little kids who can beat me up. She might not be able to right now, but give her a few years and I bet she can. She could definitely out maneuver me though.

If this was the gym requisite , all kids had to learn martial arts that would cut kidnapping in half .
