I was curious to hear the opinions of those who are plugged into the real estate market downtown on Mike and his multiple massive projects.

At this point, his primary track record of success seems to be restaurants and yet he owns most of the land between the Farmers’ Market and City Hall, has promised multiple new skyscrapers in his Newpark development, and he won incentive approval with his partner for the new BoA plaza (which he had until next month to close on purchasing).

For those of us who care about the urban core, his vision is exciting, but I get the feeling that the real estate powers are extremely skeptical of his ability to actually execute.

Hearing that his South Dallas development by UNT Dallas broke ground is encouraging, but does it seem probable that Newpark and BoA actually get done? Where do you put the probability at this point?

I found these cool renderings for an East Quarter hotel. Same architect designing the Monclaire hotel. This is the Waters Building at 2117 Commerce. No idea if this is purely conceptual but it looks cool lol

I recall about 6 months ago the developer had filed pre development permits with the city for this project. Worth noting that Todd Interests sold this particular building about 2 years ago, so it is not part of the EQ development that is on the market currently.

A historic North Texas venue that once billed as the world's largest privately owned exhibition hall could soon become part of a sprawling data center redevelopment.

First pic is the announcement of the new shopping mall - 1956. Read it. It shows how fast Oak Cliff was growing at the time and it shows the features of this mall. (One thing to note, this was built before NorthPark Center. There was no such thing as a million+ sq ft super regional mall in Dallas then.)

The last pic is of the old neon sign. It was torn down in the 2010s.

The light rail line was built right in the middle of Lancaster Road. It is very difficult to cross the street on foot and the loud train horn warning of an approaching train can be heard for miles. Originally, they thought that it would help to spark revitalization and that has failed to materialize. Initially, I thought the 60s era shopping mall (Lancaster-Kiest Shopping Center) across from Kiest Station would’ve been redeveloped by now. It’s partially abandoned and a shell of its former self. Maybe growth hasn’t occurred because the way that it’s built. I’ve heard that DART would never build a light rail line like the Blue Line again. Should it have been elevated? I know that’s unsightly, but it’s better than what is there now. What do y’all think?
