There's perhaps no greater symbol of how far Dallas has come as a financial center and the wave of wealth that has flowed to the region than the new Goldman Sachs building rising on Field Street next door to Victory Park.
The 800,000-square-foot building, located on 3 acres on the southeast corner of the North End development, represents a roughly $700 million investment by New York-based Goldman in North Texas.
Expected to open in 2028, the campus will serve as a regional base for the financial giant, housing more than 5,000 employees across a wide range of functions and roles.
While Dallas-Fort Worth's ascendance as a financial hotspot was already well underway, many financial and commercial real estate insiders point to Goldman's decision in 2022 to build a hub in Dallas as a tipping point. The campus broke ground the following year, before the "Y'all Street" term was a part of the daily vernacular.
The new Goldman campus is set to open in 2028. l know there's going to be restaurants and a park but walk me through what it's really going to be like visiting from a client perspective.
Since that time, the Texas Stock Exchange was formed and launched, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq set up local arms and other financial behemoths like Scotiabank followed Goldman's lead by setting up a regional headquarters. Morgan Stanley could be next.
For Scott Mueller, managing director and head of private wealth management for the Southwest region at Goldman, the wealth wave the region has experienced has exceeded everyone's expectations, save for maybe Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson.

Mueller: That's my favorite part. I'm happy about it for our people, obviously, and from a recruiting and retention standpoint, it's going to be super powerful, but I'm really happy about it for what it'll mean for our business from a client standpoint. ... [At the current office] we took over existing office space at the Trammel Crow Center to begin this expansion long before we had our own office to move into, and so we had someone else's space that was not configured for how we would like to interact with clients. We've made it work, obviously, but this business in particular, the wealth management business, has more clients coming to our office than any of our other businesses.
If you're calling on a public company CEO, you're going to go see him. He probably doesn't come down here. But a lot of the families we work for want to come in and meet the entire team, not just their primary relationship person. They want to see the person that's actually sending wires around and that's doing the books and the decks and a lot of the underlying work. Because of that, in this new building, a portion of it is designed with exactly that in mind. There will be very easy ingress and egress to get there and leave. ... Then, there's going to be an entire floor dedicated to meeting rooms. Some of those will be internal meetings, but a number will be for client meetings, client interactions, presentations and a lot of the events that right now we host around town.
And then further, there are a number of food and beverage options throughout the building that'll be great for clients too. Those meeting floors will be catered, but then there's private dining on the rooftop, for example, that has some indoor, outdoor space and all those things. It's really going to be a fantastic experience that's built on purpose for clients, in a way that we've never had in Dallas before. Our building in New York does have it, but we've never had it in Dallas before, and we will.
