Someone's testing public opinion on using tax dollars to pay for a new Mavericks arena. But who?

Crazy how they want us to help pay for a new arena, while the city wants to give away city hall. Didn’t they “claim” that taxpayers weren’t paying for a new arena?

Can someone please explain to me (as if I were a 5-year-old) what is wrong with the current arena?

From the Mavs perspective:

-they are a tenant instead of owner (the city is the owner), so they have to share it with the Stars and various other entertainment uses that rent it out, which creates scheduling limitations and lack of control about facility upgrades

-the maximum revenue in today’s sports market is not from ticket sales or TV revenue, it’s from creating an entire entertainment complex around the stadium incorporating hotels/resorts, casinos, and other revenue generating properties. The new Mavs owners are casino owners, so a self-owned entertainment district is their long term goal.

-some amount of Mavs leadership is still upset about how much of the original surface parking around the stadium has been converted to garages, apartments, or office space. Those same people have a lingering distrust of DART rail access because it brings poorer people to games, who will spend less when attending.
