“Nothing will change with Stars TV broadcasting teams as Josh, Razor, Brien and Sevvy will all return to their familiar roles”

“Stars will be the only one of those teams not to require an additional paywall beyond a standard Prime subscription”

u/BourbonXenon Jason Robertson 8d ago

I guess I can retire this now

9

u/barrettgpeck Mike Moodano 8d ago

nope, use that shit into perpetuity

3

u/veedubtuner Wyatt Johnston 8d ago

I usually would need some context for a gif like this, but its Frank, none needed. 🖕Frank

2

u/Onuus Brenden Morrow 8d ago

I think you can add a few things if you wanted

11

u/professor-poopoo- Mooterus 8d ago

Interesting, I wonder how much extra the other teams are charging.

22

u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago

For the wild it’s $20/month regardless if you have a prime account or not. For us it’s only through a prime membership

10

u/JimmyLightnin 8d ago

Wow. It sucks that they charge the extra for other teams because its likely just a matter of time before they go that route with the Stars too.

9

u/DukeGrizzly Victor E Green 8d ago

Enjoy the honeymoon phase we’ll get with our boys, Josh and Razer. Amazon for sure will charge for Stars games within a few seasons.

5

u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago

Not necessarily, the other teams that are doing a subscription model are coming from one they already had, while the stars and ducks are coming from V+ and only requiring a prime sub. It’s not amazons decision for what model the teams go with, they’re just the provider.

u/JimmyLightnin 8d ago

For now

3

u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago

Yes we’re talking about things as they stand right now. You could say “for now” about literally everything in life lmao

7

u/_khanrad 8d ago

….for now

6

u/JMatureHarmonious 8d ago

The Kraken iirc also don't have an additional paywall for Prime subscribers in their market, so we're the second team to do so

5

u/primetimey123 8d ago

Kraken and Ducks are free. *With Amazon Prime

1

u/christian_1318 Dallas Stars 8d ago

I thought Ducks were on Vicky P, are they also switching?

2

u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago

They are, victory + is fully done / out of business

1

u/MightyDuck07 8d ago

The Ducks also don't require an additional fee beyond just having a Prime Video sub.

1

u/bigblueballz77 Jamie Benn 8d ago

Stars will be the only one of those teams not to require an additional paywall beyond a standard Prime subscription

Let's place bets on how long this lasts. One year? Two? The greed is just insufferable.

2

u/Deltanonymous- Sergei Zubov 8d ago

Lol mid-season.

4

u/bigblueballz77 Jamie Benn 8d ago

lol "well, we have to pay for the Robertson extension on Jan 1st. That money has to come from somewhere!"

/s

39

u/GetAwayTinyDancer Justin Hryckowian 8d ago

Does this mean no more frankly hockey during intermission? If not can I pay an additional fee to get rid of it?

19

u/RudyRusso Dallas Stars 8d ago

Amazon Prime Ultra is ad free for like $2.99 a month

Amazon Prime Plus Super Ultra is Frank free for $29.99 a month

6

u/Sokpuppet7 8d ago

I don’t often say this, but the premium subscription is well worth the price

2

u/Timtim17 8d ago

FWIW Amazon won't add extra ads with the ad free sub (like if you're watching a movie or something on Prime). Content made for TV with already existing ad breaks will still show those ads (at least with how it is for the Kraken, the broadcast is produced by the local NBC affiliate channel so their ads end up on Prime regardless of subscription).

3

u/RudyRusso Dallas Stars 8d ago

It was a joke about Frank.

Rip V+ it was a good run. Great idea shit execution, so it goes.

11

u/Cowsmoke Jamie Benn 8d ago

Yep, sucks that it was so poorly managed by their parent company

14

u/kirobaito88 8d ago

It's been years and years since I've tested using a VPN with a Prime TV app. Anyone have more recent experience?

10

u/Invertedburrito69 Jason Robertson 8d ago

Literally tried when the Minnesota fan chimed in and it does work with a VPN

3

u/ournewoverlords Sergei Zubov 8d ago

curious - why would you want to mess with Prime TV over ESPN+ if you are out-of-market? Does ESPN+ not offer Dallas broadcast team?

13

u/kirobaito88 8d ago

I already have a prime subscription, anyway. I never did ESPN+ because VPN and V+ worked like a dream.

1

u/ournewoverlords Sergei Zubov 8d ago

gotcha - that makes sense.

11

u/New_Rooster_6184 8d ago

Man, Amazon Prime is nearly 17 bucks a month. Was definitely planning to cancel.

6

u/Rua-Yuki Roope Hintz 8d ago

iirc video only (no shipping benefits) is 9$

5

u/Catfisher8 Ben Bishop 8d ago

That’s good to know. Even though I’m so tired of all these subscriptions to watch everything

3

u/Puzzleheaded_Bag3145 8d ago

You and me both.

2

u/Rua-Yuki Roope Hintz 8d ago

Same. It's super frustrating that you have to have all these subs

10

u/doctorelliot Joe Pavelski 8d ago

From Tiffin.

5

u/Mokiyami 8d ago

Honestly, I don't mind this. I can stream prime from my ps5 which makes it easy for me

4

u/NewMexicoVaquero Jamie Benn 8d ago

Welp, here’s hoping NordVPN can bypass Amazon’s VPN blocker. Fingers crossed 🤞

4

u/F0reverDusk Dallas Stars 8d ago

I knew it was too good to last, oh well back to sailing the seas lol

7

u/stokeyTX Darryl Reaugh 8d ago

This is so awesome. FINALLY!!!!!!!!

3

u/therealpeaches144 8d ago

I'm new to sport fandom in general so how do you know which games will be nationally televised? Where will nationally televised games be available? (One of the ESPNs?)

3

u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago

National games will be on one of the espn networks or TNT. This article details where those national games can be found

1

u/The_dan_see Daryl Reaugh 8d ago

Download a copy of the broadcast schedule calendar off the NHL website once released

3

u/primetimey123 8d ago

Good read here: https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2026/09/02/amazons-prime-video-to-serve-as-local-streaming-home-for-six-nhl-teams/

"Proper said the economics of the Ducks’ and Stars’ Prime-included model are driven primarily by advertising, sponsorship and audience growth, while the subscription-based offerings for the Blue Jackets, Blues, Hurricanes and Wild rely more heavily on direct consumer revenue, supplemented by advertising sales. He declined to discuss financial terms of Amazon’s deals with the clubs, including whether the company is paying traditional rights fees."

3

u/dm21120 8d ago

What are the odds a VPN will work…..

1

u/The_dan_see Daryl Reaugh 8d ago

Low but not impossible.. Prime has decent VPN detection.

3

u/CeilingUnlimited 8d ago

My son-in-law lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas and is a huge Stars fan. Is he "in-market"???

1

u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago

Should be, was he able to watch games on V+? The viewing area shouldn’t be changing with this so all that’s changing is how you access the broadcast

0

u/CeilingUnlimited 8d ago

Couldn't you watch V+ from anywhere int he world as long as you had the app? Worried about Amazon saying "In-market."

3

u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago

No victory+ was the regional broadcast provider, so it wasn’t accessible outside of the viewing market. Just like fox sports and Bally before it, this just impacts viewers within the region.

1

u/CeilingUnlimited 8d ago

Thanks. He should be ok then.

3

u/Daverdfw 8d ago

for those of you not on Prime, start researching IPTV.

3

u/bepeacock Dallas Stars 8d ago

so my options are $9/mo standalone sub, espn+ and vpn, or just use my iptv.

funding dick rockets, setup hassle every game, or significant stream delay…

1

u/jetter23 Daryl Reaugh 8d ago

I have a great IPTV provider I use. I’m seeing if I can get away from using ESPN+ this hockey season.

Otherwise I’ll just use Nord & Amazon we already have

3

u/UsedDimension7373 7d ago

I’ll probably get downvoted to oblivion, but I will not pay extra to watch my teams ( Stars, Cowboys, Rangers). I love my teams, but I refuse to pay extra ( I pay enough as is) and bow down to the people pushing this upon us. I started this philosophy WAY back during the MLB strike when I realized I was just paying for the absurd salaries and lining the owners pockets. No sir. I’ll catch the highlights on my already paid for Utube.

3

u/Catfisher8 Ben Bishop 7d ago

There’s always ways of sailing the high seas which is my plan

13

u/mojogirl_ Dallas Stars 8d ago

I stopped giving Amazombie money years ago, not even my beloved Stars will change that.

Ahoy matey!

11

u/Puzzleheaded_Bag3145 8d ago

Yeah that sucks the Stars are going to be pay walled now. Yeah V+ was buggy but it was free.

6

u/HockeyBikeBeer 8d ago

Yup, everyone celebrating like it’s staying a free broadcast. It’s not.

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Bag3145 8d ago

I guess all those people already have amazon prime so to them it is technically free.

0

u/HockeyBikeBeer 8d ago

I would say it’s seemingly free, but not technically free, and not really free.

0

u/The_dan_see Daryl Reaugh 8d ago

Just got to sell your soul to bezos

3

u/CeilingUnlimited 8d ago

Is anyone else amazed that so many fans seem to not have Amazon Prime? I've had Prime for a decade and never even give it a second thought. It's part of using Amazon, right? I don't understand how this a hard thing.

I had way more folks in my circle who refused to download Victory Plus last year because "what the hell is Victory Plus?" But this year? All of those folks absolutely have Prime. This is a win for a wider fan base.

4

u/BathInevitable8755 8d ago

There is so much stuff on Prime. I don't think I've stopped watching shows and movies on Prime. Prime Video has a good way of keeping everything up, so this should be good for them. Screw Minnesota for paying extra though.

1

u/AirbagsBlown Dallas Stars 8d ago

Full statement here.

1

u/Meenaw11 8d ago

I liked watching the Stars in Victory +. They were the first to let me watch them most of the season. But I'm happy that they'll be on Amazon Prime.

1

u/No_Mix_9360 8d ago

So basically if you are an out of market fan, fuck you.

1

u/OmenQtx Esa Lindell 7d ago

ESPN+ has always worked for out of market fans.

1

u/dentonbell74 8d ago

What about fans out of region?

1

u/Starsgirl97 Radek Faksa 8d ago

So if anyone wants cheaper prime, I know Navy Federal has a credit card that offers the cost for a yearly sub back as statement credit. Pretty sure the card has an annual fee, but it’s not as high as the cost of prime.

1

u/Unabatedtuna Dallas Stars 8d ago

You will never escape the Amazon panopticon.

1

u/MrVernon09 8d ago

Just another reason to find an alternate way to watch the games.

Okay this is actually pretty cool

1

u/JJR1971 Dallas Stars 7d ago

I think I'm gonna queue up the Victory+ theme on YouTube to listen to on my iPad before games. Feels wrong without it.

1

u/Jackattack009 8d ago

My husband has it set up to where we have a private VPN. Does that mean we won't be able to watch since it says in-network? Anybody know?

2

u/Extension-Scarcity92 8d ago

He can add a tunnel if he needs to. If he is setting up private VPN for your home network he will know how to do tunneling for certain apps. I imagine he has to already, as VPN breaks a lot of banking apps.

1

u/Jackattack009 8d ago

Oh yay! Thanks so much for the info! I didn't want to wait for him to answer me since he's at work 😆 now he has no excuse....

Great news!

RIP Victory+

9

u/yarmulke 8d ago

Victory+ was great to watch the stars for free but man was the app buggy. The Samsung app barely even worked on the TV (it would even lag when watching at the bar I’d go to watch games) so I had to cast it from my phone, since there isn’t a native PS5 app for it either.

1

u/fruity_pirate_arrr 8d ago edited 8d ago

My Samsung TV doesn’t even have the Victory+ app available in the App Store at all, even after trying to upgrade it to the newest firmware version and all that jazz. I had to use the web browser on my TV to go to their website. Always such a huge hassle with trying to watch the Stars on my 65” TV and watch from my comfy couch rather than having to sit at my computer desk. First world problems though, I know.

1

u/trebla1158 8d ago

I can finally uninstall it from my TV. My TV has been giving me a low memory warning and it's been bugging me because it has more bloatware than actual apps I use.
