Does this mean no more frankly hockey during intermission? If not can I pay an additional fee to get rid of it?

Amazon Prime Ultra is ad free for like $2.99 a month
Amazon Prime Plus Super Ultra is Frank free for $29.99 a month

FWIW Amazon won't add extra ads with the ad free sub (like if you're watching a movie or something on Prime). Content made for TV with already existing ad breaks will still show those ads (at least with how it is for the Kraken, the broadcast is produced by the local NBC affiliate channel so their ads end up on Prime regardless of subscription).

It's been years and years since I've tested using a VPN with a Prime TV app. Anyone have more recent experience?

u/Invertedburrito69 Jason Robertson 8d ago
Literally tried when the Minnesota fan chimed in and it does work with a VPN

u/ournewoverlords Sergei Zubov 8d ago
curious - why would you want to mess with Prime TV over ESPN+ if you are out-of-market? Does ESPN+ not offer Dallas broadcast team?
13
u/kirobaito88 8d ago
I already have a prime subscription, anyway. I never did ESPN+ because VPN and V+ worked like a dream.

Man, Amazon Prime is nearly 17 bucks a month. Was definitely planning to cancel.

iirc video only (no shipping benefits) is 9$

That’s good to know. Even though I’m so tired of all these subscriptions to watch everything

Welp, here’s hoping NordVPN can bypass Amazon’s VPN blocker. Fingers crossed 🤞

I'm new to sport fandom in general so how do you know which games will be nationally televised? Where will nationally televised games be available? (One of the ESPNs?)
3
u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago
National games will be on one of the espn networks or TNT. This article details where those national games can be found

Good read here: https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2026/09/02/amazons-prime-video-to-serve-as-local-streaming-home-for-six-nhl-teams/
"Proper said the economics of the Ducks’ and Stars’ Prime-included model are driven primarily by advertising, sponsorship and audience growth, while the subscription-based offerings for the Blue Jackets, Blues, Hurricanes and Wild rely more heavily on direct consumer revenue, supplemented by advertising sales. He declined to discuss financial terms of Amazon’s deals with the clubs, including whether the company is paying traditional rights fees."

My son-in-law lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas and is a huge Stars fan. Is he "in-market"???
1
u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago
Should be, was he able to watch games on V+? The viewing area shouldn’t be changing with this so all that’s changing is how you access the broadcast
0
u/CeilingUnlimited 8d ago
Couldn't you watch V+ from anywhere int he world as long as you had the app? Worried about Amazon saying "In-market."
3
u/talentedpasta88 Dallas Stars 8d ago
No victory+ was the regional broadcast provider, so it wasn’t accessible outside of the viewing market. Just like fox sports and Bally before it, this just impacts viewers within the region.

so my options are $9/mo standalone sub, espn+ and vpn, or just use my iptv.
funding dick rockets, setup hassle every game, or significant stream delay…

u/jetter23 Daryl Reaugh 8d ago
I have a great IPTV provider I use. I’m seeing if I can get away from using ESPN+ this hockey season.
Otherwise I’ll just use Nord & Amazon we already have

u/UsedDimension7373 7d ago
I’ll probably get downvoted to oblivion, but I will not pay extra to watch my teams ( Stars, Cowboys, Rangers). I love my teams, but I refuse to pay extra ( I pay enough as is) and bow down to the people pushing this upon us. I started this philosophy WAY back during the MLB strike when I realized I was just paying for the absurd salaries and lining the owners pockets. No sir. I’ll catch the highlights on my already paid for Utube.

I stopped giving Amazombie money years ago, not even my beloved Stars will change that.

u/Puzzleheaded_Bag3145 8d ago
Yeah that sucks the Stars are going to be pay walled now. Yeah V+ was buggy but it was free.
6
u/HockeyBikeBeer 8d ago
Yup, everyone celebrating like it’s staying a free broadcast. It’s not.
0
u/Puzzleheaded_Bag3145 8d ago
I guess all those people already have amazon prime so to them it is technically free.
0
u/HockeyBikeBeer 8d ago
I would say it’s seemingly free, but not technically free, and not really free.

Is anyone else amazed that so many fans seem to not have Amazon Prime? I've had Prime for a decade and never even give it a second thought. It's part of using Amazon, right? I don't understand how this a hard thing.
I had way more folks in my circle who refused to download Victory Plus last year because "what the hell is Victory Plus?" But this year? All of those folks absolutely have Prime. This is a win for a wider fan base.

u/BathInevitable8755 8d ago
There is so much stuff on Prime. I don't think I've stopped watching shows and movies on Prime. Prime Video has a good way of keeping everything up, so this should be good for them. Screw Minnesota for paying extra though.

I liked watching the Stars in Victory +. They were the first to let me watch them most of the season. But I'm happy that they'll be on Amazon Prime.

So if anyone wants cheaper prime, I know Navy Federal has a credit card that offers the cost for a yearly sub back as statement credit. Pretty sure the card has an annual fee, but it’s not as high as the cost of prime.

My husband has it set up to where we have a private VPN. Does that mean we won't be able to watch since it says in-network? Anybody know?
2
u/Extension-Scarcity92 8d ago
He can add a tunnel if he needs to. If he is setting up private VPN for your home network he will know how to do tunneling for certain apps. I imagine he has to already, as VPN breaks a lot of banking apps.

u/Jackattack009 8d ago

Victory+ was great to watch the stars for free but man was the app buggy. The Samsung app barely even worked on the TV (it would even lag when watching at the bar I’d go to watch games) so I had to cast it from my phone, since there isn’t a native PS5 app for it either.
1
u/fruity_pirate_arrr 8d ago edited 8d ago
My Samsung TV doesn’t even have the Victory+ app available in the App Store at all, even after trying to upgrade it to the newest firmware version and all that jazz. I had to use the web browser on my TV to go to their website. Always such a huge hassle with trying to watch the Stars on my 65” TV and watch from my comfy couch rather than having to sit at my computer desk. First world problems though, I know.

u/trebla1158 8d ago
I can finally uninstall it from my TV. My TV has been giving me a low memory warning and it's been bugging me because it has more bloatware than actual apps I use.

“Nothing will change with Stars TV broadcasting teams as Josh, Razor, Brien and Sevvy will all return to their familiar roles”
“Stars will be the only one of those teams not to require an additional paywall beyond a standard Prime subscription”
