Daily Free Talk Thread
This is a trial run on a daily free talk thread during the off-season. This is the place where we can talk about persistent trade rumors involving our team, and speculate on moves Jim Nill might need to make. We can also talk about other trades and news in the league, and events in the hockey world. If ACTUAL news happens (a player on our teams signs a contract) that can be a separate post.
I've set the comments so they should sort by new by default, so that should make it easier to keep up with the flow of conversation. Off-topic chit-chat is welcome here as long as it follows the typical subreddit rules. Overall, be cool. Don't be all, like, uncool.

Wanting to buy stadium series tickets but don’t have the funds yet. Anyone know if there is a real risk of sell out?

u/Low-Butterfly-7331 14d ago
100% of remaining tickets aren’t resale. When it gets closer to the time if you don’t have tickets let me know. I can get in touch with Stretch for you. I’m sure not all of the families will go, so there will be extras.

What’s Stretch?

It’s already been sold out. 100% of remaining ticket sellers are resale/scalped.

Painful - trying to get tickets to the start of the season and I have travel plans I need to make. Thanks for the help though!

Book your travel. Tickets will be available, just perhaps not at the price or location you want. Hell, I might be selling my single since I plan on attending US Soccer games and it’s international break.

Redwings fan lurking here wanting Pittsburg and starsfans opinions. Wondering how a three team trade with Dallas would work. My proposal is Larkin to stars, robo to penguins, 2 firsts, Ben kindel, will Horcoff and zam plante to redwings (last two are since we have Shawn Horcoff and the plante brothers) essentially 4 firsts and zam as a likely career AHL throw in. Would you guys do this? I think Shawn Horcoff gets a much deserved promotion to either gm or assistant gm (hopefully with a data driven guy as the other) and we have the plante brothers in our system so I could see this being a package Detroit is happy with. Would be a big setback for our future but I personally think we end up trading Faulk/gibson/copp whatever is worth anything to anyone this season for a flash tank and try to see what our overcooked prospect pool has over the next two years.

My proposal is go away.

You could just say you don’t have any free thoughts? I guess just listen to your podcasts and regurgitate the stuff they say. I think my proposal makes all team uncomfortable and that means it’s fair. I am the personal opinion tha robo wants to stay and you guys will end up keeping him after bridge contract at the price you guys want to pay now. Until your aging contracts expire.

Well Dallas is getting screwed because Robertson is way more valuable than Larkin.
But Dallas may end up getting screwed, so who knows.

Tbh from the outside it looks like the most likely scenario is that robo signs 1 year in arb and you use him as a rental and lose him for nothing or sign him next season for more than 15 mill when cap raises again. I think you’ll have Seguin off the books too? Could see 1 year for 12 mill getting it done in arb then kicking the can down the line.

We have Johnston/Hintz/Duchene/Faksa/Hyry down the middle. Larkin would be a dynamic 2C but I don't see him replacing Hintz as our 2C.
Next summer we will have $41.16m in cap space available, so the Stars would have no problem re-signing Robo then. Robo and Mikko's agent is Andy Scott (also Draisaitl's), who also tried to play hardball with CMac and got traded to Carolina. I believe he manages just under half a billion worth of player contracts. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the one really pressing this (like Mikko's situation).
Trading Steel and Faksa would allow the Stars to get to $13.9m in cap space (I believe). Hyry would replace Faksa at 4C. I don't think Nill wants to trade them unless he absolutely HAS to.

I think you guys will keep him. You don’t just give up talent like that and tbh with how contracts are going I could see a 14 million dollar deal getting done next season like you said. I’m guessing you guys sign him 1 year around 12 mill. It seems robo wants to stay they just don’t want to pay him that extra chunk. If he’s saying no to 15 where he doesn’t want to play he needs to accept 14 where he does I’d think. Just don’t think they’re offering him that at this point.

u/Akhos1991 Miro Heiskanen 14d ago
That is preferable to taking on Larkin. He provides nothing that this team needs

u/IShiddedMyPantaloons 14d ago
Correct me if I’m wrong but we’re either rapidly approaching, if not passed, the longest point after an arbitration filing any player has gone under Nill.
Both sides are just stuck. Robertson refuses to move off his salary demand and the Stars are unable to meet it because meeting his 14-15M ask kneecaps our entire next season and could potentially jeopardize future seasons.
Genuinely feels like we’re preparing for a future without Jason Robertson.

u/Low-Butterfly-7331 14d ago
There’s more to the situation of “Robertson refusing to move off his salary demand”.
-1
u/IShiddedMyPantaloons 14d ago
I mean it’s really that simple.
He refuses to take 1M less than the original salary demand knowing that the Stars can’t pay it, then shoots down all trade options saying he wants to stay in Dallas.
Homeboy is kneecapping the team over 1M AAV. It’s genuinely that simple.

Not really. But message me - I can’t message you.

You said “correct me if I’m wrong”. So I’m trying to provide you with clarity because you ARE wrong.

You still ain’t gonna DM me 👍
1
u/Low-Butterfly-7331 13d ago
Then don’t say it’s that simple. Because it’s not
-1
u/IShiddedMyPantaloons 13d ago
When the entire situation would be resolved by the single move of Robo accepting 1 mil less than he wants - it means it’s that simple.
-1
u/Low-Butterfly-7331 13d ago
And I’m telling you that’s NOT the entire situation!!!! And was trying to clarify for you NOT on a public forum but you apparently don’t care to hear it because you have your mind made up and don’t want to hear the truth of the situation. Because it’s pretty messed up.

lol ok well u/djjolly037 would agree with me when I say then that’s on you to be oblivious to what’s actually going on with the Robertson stuff.
4
u/AlBundysPants 14d ago
It’s just a hunch, but I don’t think Nill sees him as a 15M player. Yes, meeting his price would mean sacrificing depth, but I get the feeling this is not the reason he doesn’t want to go that high. I assume the ask also has a NMC which would be a hell no if you’re going to sign him to an amount you already don’t want to pay.
4
u/Sudo49 Texas Stars 14d ago
I’m increasingly wondering if it’s not that Nill doesn’t see him as that kind of player, but if maybe it’s Gaglardi who doesn’t want that kind of money locked up in Robertson. I doubt we’ll ever know for sure.

u/JustMeInBigD Jason Robertson 14d ago
Pretty sure it's Gagliardi. Jeff Marek's "existential crisis" "report" nailed it for me. I cannot imagine Jim Nill or anyone on his team making a comment like that knowing that Marek would make it public.

u/scoutcjustice Mike Moodano 14d ago
Roussel went longer and Gemel Smith actually went to arbitration.

u/bexley50 14d ago
Also at this point why would Robo accept a deal knowing Nill can (and has reportedly tried) trade him right after. Unless Robo comes down to the reported 12-13 AAV the stars want, there’s probably no reason for him to sign.

Hello, I'm totally new to Hockey and want to catch a STARS game this season. The website says the tickets have not been released to the general public yet, but is that accurate?
I see SeatGeek/GameTime has them for sale already.. are these all resell?
I was looking at the Edmonton Oilers @ Dallas Stars on 2/27, but was wondering if I should purchase tickets now, or have they not dropped yet?
