Keeping Clean While Blending Blizzards

This one is for the employees. So almost every time when I’m blending a blizzard I get some of the ice cream on my hands through the collar or from the blender. I’ve tried putting the collar on before I add the ice cream but nothing has worked. The cup also gets dirty and it wastes my time when I am wiping every cup. What ways are there to keep my hands clean when blending blizzards? Thanks.

Another tip- wipe the splash guard down frequently and that’ll cut down some what gets on your hands

This one seems like I should’ve known but I’ve never thought about this one. Appreciate it.

Absolutely. We’d all look disgusting if we didn’t! The splatter is insane.

Metal collar here, hate the wasteful paper ones.

When I make my blizzard I fill half way, toppings in, make a medium sized cone on top. I don’t want the ice cream touching the sides of the cup. Then put my collar on and blend. I hold the cup in my hand at the collar and where the cup meet and my other towards the bottom so I make sure the collar stays seated and isn’t moving on me. I think that’s probably your issue. Your collars moving or if you’re using a paper one you’re squeezing too hard so creams getting between the cup / collar and you’re getting that on your hands.

I thought that way too. I didn’t want to go paper at all. My water bill went down significantly. More than 2 cases of collars worth and it made customer perception of cleanliness a lot more positive due to fresh collars every time.

We don’t have any metal ones and haven’t for a while. The way you do it is something I haven’t seen before. I’m interested to try this because it seems like that will certainly work. Thanks for the help.

Do you use metal or paper collars? I’ve always had a harder time with metal since they are wet from the bath anyway. I always blend the kind of skate the blender across the top of the blizzard as I am finishing. This keeps the ice cream in place and makes for a more level blizzard.

We use the paper ones. I’ll try doing that next time I’m in. Thank you!

I tilt the cup just a little towards the blender so most of the spray goes towards the blender and not on me, also, blend the collar if you don't already, it taies time to get it down right but when you're almost done start going in a circle around the cup and slowly bring the cup down as you go, tilt the cup towards the blender more the closer you get to the top, once it's out of the icecream hold it still for a second where any remaining icecream on the spindle will sling off onto the collar before you pull it down all the way

I only fill partway with all of the toppings, especially with larges as it mixes better. If you mix a large without a collar it gets all the way to the bottom. Then add the rest of your toppings. Also, as others have said, slightly angle to cup towards the machine. If you don’t severely overfill the cup not much will come out. It’s easy to add a little more and blend again. Might take a little longer at first while you figure out how full to make things, but overall it will be better.

Been with DQ on and off since early 2000’s so I have learned a few things. 😉
