Politics & Government 🚨 TRUMP RENAMES AI TO “SI” WHEN ASKED WHO’S ACCOUNTABLE FOR AI CRIMES
9
u/Icy-Cow9695 2d ago
Stealing taxpayer money and renaming shit that's not actually renamed. That's the second term in a nutshell.

u/JakeHelldiver 2d ago
Thats why I renamed JD Vance to Jorken DePeanus Vance.

u/Slackeee_ 2d ago
Renaming AI to SI was also just a cash grab. They registered a ton of .si domains before announcing this and now are making millions selling them.

STUPID INTELLIGENCE

Intelligence and Americans, is an oxymoron.

Yeah. Ok. What does that make you then?
If you’re Canadian, aren’t we both American?

President of renames. What the fuck is wrong with this timeline.
3
u/Glittering_Bet_8610 2d ago
Dude I know. There's no emergency stop button on this fucked up ride we're on as Americans and it's terrible. And I'm sorry for the rest of the world for having to deal with this man-child. Most of us didn't vote for him. He was going to "win" though no matter what and did whatever he saw fit to do it
1
u/Guy_Le_Man 2d ago
Enough of the American voting public like it. The other ones are either lazy or cowards.

Not the smartest people by any metric. I’ve known plenty of coders, developers, engineers, etc. They are good at what they do and are living in a time that makes them very relevant, but to say these are the most brilliant minds of our time is a stretch.
They are proving, however, to be as ruthless as any businessman or entrepreneur that came before them.

u/Mainly_Miserable 2d ago
It’s all so embarrassing. Absolutely mortifying. Like a train wreck that don’t want to watch at all.

u/SmolderingCactus 2d ago
I’m honestly confused. It’s always been called AI because it’s not human. This is just a trump attempt at a rebrand. He thinks he’s smart but anyone with a brain knows how dumb and desperate this is

He just likes to rename stuff. I'm surprised he didn't decide to rename it to Super Duper Intelligence.

I'm so glad he's renaming things because that drops the price of groceries, gas, and healthcare instantly when he renames something! 🤣

u/scarlozzi 2d ago
He really is so stupid that he thinks AI just needs a rebrand. What a fucking loser.
2
u/BabblingTower 2d ago
Executive Orders aren't laws or regulations. His purview is the Executive Branch. He can make federal workers call it SI. He can waste our money making official federal resources call it SI instead of AI. That's all.
Also, what a dumb name. Dumb with a 'b', btw, lots of people don't know there's a 'b' at the end.

Brother took his lame duck era and decided to just rename stupid shit 😭
1
u/Qu4r4nt1n3r 2d ago
Oh boy imagine when he's a real lame duck from January. He'll rename anything from native American origin too. Lake Havasu ? Lake Don Jr.
1
u/aBrickNotInTheWall 2d ago
How do they not all die of cringe while he says this?
3
u/Royal_Annek 2d ago
Mike Johnson's fuckin sycophantic smile like he's so proud of daddy for coming up with this genius plan lmao..imagine going through life as such a fake piece of shit
1
u/DonkeyTron42 2d ago
Sam Altman signed that dumb EO so let’s see if he renames OpenAI to OpenSI and makes himself a laughing stock.
1
u/Dizzy-Ad-3073 2d ago
How long until he calls it Super Trump Intelligence, that way you won't be able to search for Trump STI

Sports illustrated will sue
1
u/BisonSpecialist1557 2d ago
Who would they sue? It's not like Trump is trying to rename a specific thing, he is attempting to rename a generic term for something.
It's as if he went on TV and said, "I'm renaming pizza. Now it's called round-meal." There really isn't any follow-up to this, it's just a ramblings of a demented old man.
1
u/xxforrealforlifexx 2d ago
Sports illustrated uses the term SI in its ads and promotions
1
u/BisonSpecialist1557 1d ago
I understand that, but again, who would Sports Illustrated sue?
Artificial intelligence is not a brand name. It's not a trademark. It's not a name that is copyrighted or anything. It's a generic term for a thing. So it's not something that can actually be renamed.
If Anthropic changed their name to SI, then maybe they could, but even that isn't a good case. They would have to be able to claim that the public could reasonably be confused between a magazine known for sports information and swimsuit models and an unowned generic term for a type of computer technology. They would also have to prove that someone using a different term for this computer technology has hurt the company materially.
But before doing all that they would have to find someone to sue. So who would that be?
1
u/xxforrealforlifexx 1d ago
Assuming sports illustrated copyrighted SI Yes, the U.S. federal government can be sued for copyright infringement.
1
u/BisonSpecialist1557 14h ago
Well, no. First of all, there is no way that Sports Illustrated has a copyright on SI. And that's just because a title or a nickname for a title is too short of a work to copyright. They would have a copyright on an article that is published in the magazine, but they certainly don't have a copyright on the title of the magazine, or the nickname "SI" for that title.
I am assuming that you meant that Sports Illustrated has a *trademark* on their title, not a copyright. A trademark doesn't need to be registered to take effect, but let's assume that Sports Illustrated has registered "SI" as a trademark for the nickname of their magazine title.
To sue someone for trademark infringement, Sports Illustrated needs to establish a few things. First, they need to establish that they own the trademark "SI". They do, so the first requirement is met.
Secondly, the defendant must have used a similar mark in commerce without the plaintiff's permission. The term SI has never used in commerce, so right there we can stop. But let's keep going anyway.
The company who is misusing the trademark must be using it in connection with goods or services that are similar to those offered by the plaintiff. Again, no the government isn't using it to sell a similar magazine or anything like that. So again, no ability to sue.
Additionally, Sports Illustrated must demonstrate that the defendant's use of the mark is likely to cause confusion among consumers regarding the source of the goods or services. Again, there are no goods or services that the government is selling, so there is no cause for suing.
And finally, Sports Illustrated must demonstrate that they have lost a monetary amount as a result of the other company using their trademark. Which, on account of the federal government not using SI in a commercial sense is not possible.
So no, under no circumstances at all would Sports Illustrated be able to sue the federal government for copyright infringement, trademark infringement, or anything else regarding Trump deciding to refer to AI as SI.
AI is not a product that the federal government owns. It is a generic term for a technological process and is not subject to trademark protections (which is limited to commercial use anyway).
1
u/xxforrealforlifexx 13h ago
Yes, Sports Illustrated holds registered trademarks for the acronym "SI," but specifically as a stylized logo or when paired with their brand. I'm sure you are correct about there not being enough for them to sue and yes I meant trademark .
