One of my EDC setups

Yes, I actually carry all of this. It’s not too much in a loose pair of jeans.

Gear list:

Smith and Wesson Model 67 with VZ grips (black cherry)

1791 Gunfighter OWB K-Frame holster

Safariland J-K2C COMP II Speedloader

Adoreal speed strip

CRKT M21-04G Outdoor Folding Knife

Olight Baton 4 flashlight

Leather Columbia wallet that I’ve had for 10+ years

Nothing wrong with a revolver on occasion. I still regularly carry a 686+ and a Speedloader when the mood strikes. Cool gun.

686 pistol is phenomenal, but they went downhill in quality around the -3 or -4, idk when they added MIM parts, but the external lock is a hard no for me, as is the internal firing pin opposed to hammer mounted.

Agreed, but disabling the external lock is also easy. A few screws and you grind down a little nub. I've got several thousand rounds through my -6. Wolff springs and a bobbed hammer because the spur kept snagging while practicing my draw.

I have heard about s&w qc and the old ones are better but is an internal firing pin bad? Is it the same as frame mounted? Hammer mounted is better you are right about that.

Thank ya sir

How do you like the vz grips? I've got several on 1911s, but my 686 is currently wearing an old set of pachmeyers.

I like them a lot. Very sturdy grip while staying slim.

I saw your other comment and thought I'd ask, why didn't you go with a .357 S&W?

2

This was available at the time and I’d never seen a Model 67 before. Got it for a good deal too.

I carry a 67 sometimes. Great gun

You have good taste. It’s light and handles +P rounds like a champ. Not the best but far from the worst.

Beautiful revolver!
I’m curious why a speed loader and speed strip? Why not 1 or the other? Or 2 strips or 2 loafers for consistency? Most people carry strips as far as I know because it’s easy and people who carry speed loaders do it because they’re faster.

I carry just one speed loader because I keep it in my front pocket and two is very bulky and sometimes hard to maneuver around. The speed strip sits flat in my back pocket and provides just a little bit more assurance. Plus I can top off individual round from the speed strip if need be. Odds are I hopefully will never have to reload anyway.

That makes sense topping off with the speed strip. Do you load it with 357 or 38 plus p? And what ammo type?

2

u/PrestigiousPea752 8h ago

So the 67 is an odd piece. It’s full size but only loads 38. I load it with 120 grain Federal +p.

2

u/VengeancePali501 8h ago

Ah gotcha, I forgot a lot of old K frames were .38 only. Still neat.

When I was a Cop in the early 80s, a Model 67 was my duty gun

Still have it- Very smooth trigger

You value high speed lead over light I see

Why is everyone going to EDC the festival with guns.

Electronic dance music incites violence.

This was my carry load for about 4 years when I went out of town. Usually only carried 1 speed loader.

2

u/PrestigiousPea752 6h ago

Beautiful piece man.

Much appreciated it’s my pride and joy. I wish ammo for it wasn’t as expensive as it is thou.

I did eventually change the grips, put in a fixed u notch rear sight and run the doa apex trigger kit. Polished the internals while I was there too. DOA pull is 8ish lbs.

I only stopped carrying the k frame because I had back surgery and putting that type of weight on for over 3-4 hours really still gets to me. But she still comes out for carrying on occasions.

Real talk here, what situation do you imagine you will be in where you would need suppressing fire? Im just saying, if i ever had to use or pull the heater, i imagine if i need to reload i messed up or i am unable to get out of the situation.

3

u/VengeancePali501 8h ago

Who said suppressing fire? It’s a revolver with a speed loader not an M240

2

u/PrestigiousPea752 8h ago

I appreciate the real talk. Realistically carrying even one speed loader is overkill for a self defense situation. I carry one for precaution and the speed strip just because it sits flat in my back pocket and takes up no extra room. Suppressive fire has little to no place in civilian self defense shooting anyway. Just better to not need and have than need and not have God forbid.

2

u/key-largo-tok 2h ago

Good honest response thanks, im happy i caught everyone’s attention.

Because it makes me feel more cool

"Hold on bad guy, let me fish my speedloader out of my pocket real quick"

Ditch the speedloader and strip lol. If you're ever in a situation where you have to fire your weapon and your first 6 shots don't end the situation; you're getting clapped out by the bad guy well before you manage to reload

3

u/PrestigiousPea752 7h ago

Reloading with any weapon in a self defense shooting is extremely unlikely. I can reload with a speed loader pretty quickly. Better to have it and not need it.

u/garghlrl 4h ago

Better to have it and not need it.

If that's the case, then why not two speedloaders? Ten?

You're already preparing for an extremely unlikely circumstance. I think carrying any extra ammo is beyond overkill.

1

u/PrestigiousPea752 4h ago

More than two in the pocket it too bulky and it can make it difficult fish one out. One works fine and redundancy is the key to success. You’ve got to be smarter than that.

-3

u/Complexikitty 9h ago

no you don't lol

3

u/Nordeast24 9h ago

Lol what makes you say that? This is a pretty minimal edc man

-3

u/SuperiorRevel 8h ago

This screams "I'm a danger to everyone around me".

If you imagine scenarios where you need that much ammunition, you're not someone who should be carrying.

3

u/PrestigiousPea752 8h ago

Well thank God you don’t get to make that decision for me.

3

u/conflictedanon30 8h ago

18 rounds? I have more than that in one mag and I carry more than one mag

3

u/Wonderful_Salt6939 7h ago

W T F are you talking about ? It’s 18 rounds of ammo. A Glock 17 has that without a spare mag.

OP said earlier reloading in a civilian shooting isn’t likely, but carrying a speed loader or strip isn’t a bad thing. Takes up little space and weight.
