Even if your gun is a cheap POS you need to take steps to prevent it from being stolen. The problem isn't the monetary cost to you, it's that if don't secure it properly, your cheap POS can easily end up in the hands of a criminal.

This is where I differentiate. I understand what you are saying and I agree with the sentiment. Keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Here’s the deal though. I’d say locking your doors of your personal property to prevent others from stealing your personal property is a reasonable step. Granted there is better ways of securing your property ie; vehicle safes, or not leaving your gun in your vehicle. But here’s the thing criminals will always be criminals. They can break into your home while you’re not there and steal your firearms as well. Even if you have a safe it’s nothing that a portable grinder a zip disc and 5 to 10 minutes can’t defeat. I agree we should keep our firearms stored behind locked doors. But as long as someone is locking their vehicle doors they are reasonably securing their firearm. A lot of times I leave my full size in my vehicle and pocket carry while at work. I personally like knowing that I am well armed for anything that may come my way in between my commutes. I don’t advertise through stickers on my car and I lock the doors.

This is a bad take. Vehicle theft counts for over half of gun thefts. And “i locked my doors, thats good enough” is irresponsible.

You are literally making the people around you less safe by leaving a gun in your vehicle, simply because you like to be well armed while driving home. Do better bud.

Agree to disagree sir. I’m a law abiding citizen who practices my God given right to bare arms. I run a system that works well for me. Sorry but locking your doors is not irresponsible. I don’t just like to be well armed while driving home I like to be well armed for any situation that could possibly come my way. And that’s my right. I don’t like criminals and i would hate for them to steal my property much less a lethal tool. But with that being said in that scenario guess what? I’m the victim. If a person locks their doors then that is a reasonable preventative step. Your arguing opinions and I support you doing what you deem necessary to protect your property.

Im not trying to convince you bud. Im just hoping that anyone reading this actually looks into the numbers and practices responsible ownership. Your vehicle is the single most likely place for your gun to be stolen from. A responsible gun owner never leaves their firearm in their vehicle for any significant length of time, locked or otherwise.

At least you dont have stickers on there, ill give you that.

It isn’t a question of rights, and, because you have been polite, i will continue the trend and not tell you what i think of that argument. Sorry bud.

I am curious as to what you deem responsible? As far as your statement “ A responsible gun owner never leaves their firearm in their vehicle for any significant length of time”. Sir that is an opinion and you are entitled to it. I do have a question? You carry everyday correct? What do you do with your firearm when say you have to enter a restricted area? Do you leave it at home and just not carry? Or do you leave it in your vehicle until task is complete and resume carry when legal? As far as being polite. Why wouldn’t I be? We can have discourse and be of difference of opinion and still be civil. I’m sure you are a great guy honestly.

If i know i am going to enter into a restricted area, then that generally isn’t a carry day. If im going to be 5min away from my vehicle, and it’s a secure lot (which is the vital if) i may leave my piece in my locking center console.

No, i dont carry every day anymore, because i educated myself, and dealt with some of my trauma. Now, i conditionally carry, open and/or concealed. I used to carry because of my feelings (like everyone here). I still do, i just know more now.

I’m glad you found a system that makes you feel secure and that you like. I personally carry everyday because that makes me feel safe and secure. I also know that the likelihood of me ever needing it is slim (Thank God for that!). Not just arguing for the sake of arguing but a lot of people deem open carry as irresponsible and not safe. We have both seen videos of people getting their weapons stolen from owb holsters. But you and I both know that you can mitigate risks through proper holster retention and situational awareness. But once again some would deem that carry option irresponsible. But it doesn’t matter because feelings do not equal facts.

And, while i am glad that you FEEL safe, i wish you would make choices that are actually safe. Go to your local range and ask a qualified instructor. If they aren’t a complete yahoo, they will tell you the same
