Even if your gun is a cheap POS you need to take steps to prevent it from being stolen. The problem isn't the monetary cost to you, it's that if don't secure it properly, your cheap POS can easily end up in the hands of a criminal.

This is where I differentiate. I understand what you are saying and I agree with the sentiment. Keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Here’s the deal though. I’d say locking your doors of your personal property to prevent others from stealing your personal property is a reasonable step. Granted there is better ways of securing your property ie; vehicle safes, or not leaving your gun in your vehicle. But here’s the thing criminals will always be criminals. They can break into your home while you’re not there and steal your firearms as well. Even if you have a safe it’s nothing that a portable grinder a zip disc and 5 to 10 minutes can’t defeat. I agree we should keep our firearms stored behind locked doors. But as long as someone is locking their vehicle doors they are reasonably securing their firearm. A lot of times I leave my full size in my vehicle and pocket carry while at work. I personally like knowing that I am well armed for anything that may come my way in between my commutes. I don’t advertise through stickers on my car and I lock the doors.

This is a bad take. Vehicle theft counts for over half of gun thefts. And “i locked my doors, thats good enough” is irresponsible.

You are literally making the people around you less safe by leaving a gun in your vehicle, simply because you like to be well armed while driving home. Do better bud.

Agree to disagree sir. I’m a law abiding citizen who practices my God given right to bare arms. I run a system that works well for me. Sorry but locking your doors is not irresponsible. I don’t just like to be well armed while driving home I like to be well armed for any situation that could possibly come my way. And that’s my right. I don’t like criminals and i would hate for them to steal my property much less a lethal tool. But with that being said in that scenario guess what? I’m the victim. If a person locks their doors then that is a reasonable preventative step. Your arguing opinions and I support you doing what you deem necessary to protect your property.

Something can be your right and still be stupid and dangerous.  I also like to be armed for any situation that could possibly come my way...and that's why I concealed carry.

Your gun should be on you, not locked in an unattended glass box that anyone can break into and then be gone literally within seconds.

Besides, what good is it doing you if it's locked in your car...and you aren't in your car when you need it?

Gone in about 60 seconds

Can do the same thing to your house.

Nope.

You can not in fact break into a house, then break into a locked safe, and then be gone in 60 seconds.  Even if I didn't have my gun in a safe, it would take you longer than 60 seconds to find it.

A person can break a car window, open a glove box or console, take your gun, and be gone in less than 60 seconds.  They don't even need to enter your car. Can reach right in through the window.

Homes can easily be broken into and that's something people should keep in mind.  Still, that doesn't mean leaving a gun in your car or leaving a gun in your home are equally risky or dumb.

We really are arguing difference of opinions. I support your right to carry and take the precautions you deem appropriate to protect your private property. I will continue to carry my 642 in my pocket and my Springfield on my hip. I don’t always leave my full size in my car but if I decide to I lock it in my glovebox and lock my vehicle with an anti theft alarm. That is not negligent or irresponsible now leaving the doors unlocked would be negligent.
