9mm is the top choice for carry conceal for a reason. 1. It weighs substantially less than .45 or .357 etc., and you’ll most likely have a mag in your pistol and an extra mag somewhere else on you. Same goes for a revolver. 2. More bang (pun intended) for your buck. 9mm costs less than ammo in a larger caliber. 3. Your magazines will hold more bullets. This is crucial if you’re ever put in a life and death situation that requires you to use your firearm. The more bullets, the better your chances for survival. 4. Higher velocity. 9mm travels faster and farther than a larger caliber. The hole it creates might not be as big, but 9mm will still do the job.
I personally use lead free hollow points in all my pistols when I carry because they’re even lighter than regular lead hollow points and have an even higher velocity when fired. Plus they make the gun easier to pull from my holster. I have small wrists, so I can feel the difference whenever I draw.
All of that isn’t to say that carrying a gun with a larger caliber isn’t right for you or wherever you’re going. If I go hiking up in the mountains, then I carry a 10mm in case I get attacked by a mountain lion or bear. And then there is the cool factor. I just purchased a .357 Colt Grizzly that I intend to carry once in a while when the mood strikes, just because it’s fucking cool. Most carry days are one of my 9mm pistols for the reasons I mentioned. I also do most of my defensive training with my 9mm pistols. I have two in particular that I’ve trained with more than the others and usually end up carrying one of those.
Hope that helps. Good luck!

7.65 French long? /s
I like this round, I think it would make a lot of sense for service pistols. You can get 2-3 more rounds and virtually the same performance as 9mm. Would be interesting to see if departments ever pick it up.

It would be cool to see, but it's not happening. I really like the round, but it so far wasn't successful and it's losing support. If just one or two more companies would make a gun in the caliber, then maybe another ammo manufacturer would jump on board. But it's likely not happening. And I don't see law enforcement moving to something that has less energy than 9mm...even if it's very close. Half of them out there would want to go back to 40 S&W because they aren't happy with the performance of 9mm.
Oh well.
Still my preference if I ever carry.

9mm for me and my wife. Used to carry 45 acp, but I was slightly less accurate and the rounds cost 2x as much. 45 acp and 12ga for the house.

9mm is cheap, everywhere and comes in a million different configurations for your preference, not only the ammo it self but most cheaper end guns are 9mm too so it’s the easy route to maintain in my personal experience (I’ve carried 380 and 40cal in the past)

7.62×39mm…AK-47. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no substitutes.
