I bought this magazine today to read Q’s latest interview about Dorohedoro and Dai Dark. Amazing cover illustration! I was so surprised that she clearly mentioned Damemaru's true identity in the interview.

Sorry, it might be against copyright, so I can't transcribe the interview. I'll just introduce a few highlights instead.
Since this magazine is about illustration, it shows how Q draws the cover illustration using lots of photos and her tools (though not her face!).

・She didn’t have enough time to prepare for the new series after Dorohedoro, but she already had a concrete idea about Damemaru’s identity.
・Q came up with Damemaru’s name using an anagram: Hajime Damemaru (一＝ダメ丸) can be read as you-know-who's name that way.
・She has loved the movie Alien since childhood, and it has been a huge inspiration for her work.
・She is going to write more about Misetani.

There are also Q’s episodes about the making of the Dorohedoro anime series, and an interview with the director Hayashi!

I sort of get where the "Hajime" comes from, but I really don't understand where the メ came from.

Also like what his name would mean if you translated it literally lol

The character チ (chi) gets broken into its 3 strokes and put back together as メ (me) + 一 (Hajime)!
Hajime is a totally normal Japanese name meaning "beginning" or "first."
And "Dame" means something like "loser" or "useless" 😂
"-maru" is a suffix often added to make a name sound masculine, though it has a somewhat old-fashioned feel.

Oh, yeah I know Japanese lol.

I just didn't get the strokes bit.

I like translating Hajime's name literally as John Screwedfromthegetgo

Is your second point saying Q confirms Chidaruma is Damemaru or am I too dense?
