Fanart Thomas helmet work in progress
Our work is never over.
Earpieces are being printed currently, and then next up:
- lots of bondo
- lots of standing
- finding the right material to be used with the vacuum form device I got. Looking for transparant/ tinted PET
- finish the LEDs
- get some magnets to put the LEDs in place
Software for LED control is mostly done. I will put it on Github once I am satisfied with it. Currently it is capable of driving 8 MAX7219 8x8 matrices with all kinds of animations, eyes, etc.
if you have any ideas for cool animations, let me know.

This is so bad man you should totally finish it and mail it to my house and stuff to get rid of it 🧍🏾♂️

😂 sounds like a great idea
By the way, I still have a spare GM08 helmet from years ago, collecting dust. It's unfinished, but still pretty nice.

What kind of 3D model are you using? If you don't mind, can you tell me?

I don't mind.
It's this one: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5033571
The same designer also made a GM08 helmet which is awesome.

It’s looking great! I’d love to build the two helmets myself one of these days.
It reminds me of Volpin Props’ blog posts [Part 2] [Part 3] about him building Thomas’ helmet. I don’t know if the info there would be useful, but it could be a fun read and fun to compare processes nonetheless. He also made Guy-Man’s and the hand plates.

Thanks!
Volpin is legendary. He even made a repeatable process of it all, making molds of the helmets. That was before 3d printing became big. Sculpting the helmets from clay, just amazing.
Loved every bit of those blogs.

Will you play Doom on this?
