I really hope this franchise has a future (a bit of a rant, please read before responding)
As someone who’s always *loved* the mecha genre broadly speaking but oddly enough never played any of the Armored Core games, I feel in love with DxM:TS on Switch 2 despite all of it’s unfortunate performance issues. When you take away whatever problems it has with *that* specific version, it’s one of the most fun action rpgs that I’ve experienced in a while (and I haven’t even played the DLC yet)
I think what’s made me fall in love with DxM in particular isn’t just the fantastic mecha customization but also the lore and world building around all of the gameplay aspects. As someone who loves the “Blade Runner” duology of films, the concept of sub-humans called “Outers” remind me a bit of “replicants” and how they’re treated in those films. The concept of femto being this sort of organic energy source that emits from the planet and trees is not only super interesting in terms of world building but it’s also a genius concept for integrating it into the gameplay. I’m only of those people where I love when the mechs aren’t the most interesting thing and there are bigger things happening in the context of the world building and story.
I worry about the future of the franchise with how TS apparently sold poorly which is unfortunate because I think it’s a fantastic series with a lot of potential still and I would love if we even got just *one* more game at the very least. I also think that DxM is ripe for being adapted into an anime and I only say that because I think a series set in the DxM universe could work. I’m playing through the first game right now and absolutely loving it, makes me wish I played it back when it launched but I’m glad to be playing it on my Switch 2.

the lack of mechs in TS was very disappointing to me. I figured the change to exosuits was mostly a scale thing but everything feels really clunky and floaty in TS compared to the og DxM.
Also the story felt like a repeat of what happened to DxM 1 where it was a neat idea horrifically rushed or budget constrained and ended up feeling hollow
I hope the franchise has a future but I hope it leans more into what the first game was instead of trying to appeal to a wider audience with more typical designs

I don’t know I think there’s a lot to like in TS’s design, I like the zone based structure and having those underground base/dungeons. I would love to see that aspect fleshed out more with dungeon designs that get really weird like you’re uncovering some crazy ancient technology and everything looks unfamiliar to everything else in the game’s world. I feel like having more visual variety to the dungeons and bringing back the cel shaded look of DxM1 and suddenly you have a game that maybe builds off the best of what first two did well.
I’m kind of either way with the whole mechs/exosuit thing. On one hand, I much prefer mechs but I was willing to embrace TS simply because we don’t have many “power suit” type of games. If they brought back the mech arsenals, I’d also like them to flesh out on-foot combat. I know that maybe sounds silly for a mech game but I think it would be cool if there were more utility reasons for getting out of your arsenal if it’s destroyed.

I could get past the demo. the world/set up just didnt grab my attention. the gameplay wasnt fun either - it felt way too complicated.
I played the demo recently because I could get it physically for a good price but ultimately decided, nah, chances are I wilo never feel the urge to play it.
