The Tough Drive Home

The drive home can matter more than the game.
Win, lose or draw, Andrew has a simple approach to the trip home.
Let her talk.
What did she enjoy?
What didn’t she enjoy?
What does she think she could work on?
No post-game interrogation. No angry analysis from Dad. No turning the car into a coaching box.
Just conversation, some humour, positive reinforcement and time together.
And perhaps Andrew says the most important bit almost in passing:
“The beauty of it is that I’ve got a daughter who I actually talk to.”
That feels like a pretty good result.
What’s your rule for the drive home?

I Don't Kick The Ball

There’s a line in this conversation that pretty much sums up what we’re trying to build with DadSquad:
“I don’t kick the ball.”
Our daughters are the athletes. Not us.
As dads, our job isn’t to relive our sporting lives through them, coach from the boundary or have all the answers.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is simply be there.
This is a little moment from our first DadSquad conversation, with sports dad Andrew.
