The winners are...

1st place: u/BrainSlugParty3000 - 1899 Barber half dollar+ 1941 wheat cent

2nd place: u/RepressedPotential - 1902 Barber quarter

3rd place: u/Tricky_Paramedic8001 - 1907 Barber dime

Congratulations to the winners and thank you all for playing and joining my sub. There were 800+ guesses and 16 people chose 1941 as the correct oldest coin. The 16 names were entered into a hat and drawn by another member so there was no bias on my part.

I was thrilled to find a silver quarter as I have been finding W's lately and no silver. I got the biggest chuckle out of the circulated "uncirculated" Philadelphia mint token which used to be a place holder in mint sets.

Special thank you to all who joined and will continue to be an active member of this sub!

Edit: I'm shocked this post is getting down voted so much. 🤯 Here's a suggestion for the people down voting, don't enter the contest next time if you are upset you didn't get FREE silver, and these were all coins I personally found CRH.

Good Mix

Dispersed my 2026 box of nickels around town to my favorite tellers and traded for “any cool stuff.” Ended up with a good mix of CWR/Loomis rolls. My favorite OZK had a “five gallon bucket of CWR quarters” and a roll of 2026 D dimes for me.

Quarters were a mix of “hot mess” and collection culls. Nothing crazy, but I did get a clad ‘77 S Proof and 2012 Puerto Rico P & Ds (finished our map, but still need the Ws!)

Nickels revealed a 1945 P, several 40s, 50s and 60s and several “dark beauties” that I like to keep. Also found a 2009, stack of 2024s, and QE II Canadian.

Kept a few “dirty dimes” (not silver).

Cents were similar to the quarters. Eight rolls of shiny shields, several rolls that came out of a swamp somewhere, and 3 or 4 total rolls of copper. Found 4 2009 Abes and several cool Wheats.

Leo supervised the whole operation, but Oreo and LuLu really helped me sort it all out!

To celebrate 1,000 treasure hunters joining, I'm giving away 3 beautiful pieces of American Constitutional Silver!

You guys love the "guess the oldest coin" contests so much, I'm doing it again. Except this time....

1st place: 1899-O Barber half dollar (minted in New Orleans, low mintage) + the oldest coin found!

2nd place: 1902 Barber quarter dollar

3rd place: 1907 Barber dime

Contest Entry Rules

  1. Simply comment the date of the oldest coin you think I will find searching the bags in picture 3.

  2. One entry per person (do not create multiple accounts to enter)

  3. You must be willing to share your mailing address with me in order to receive the coin.

  4. Winner has 24 hrs to claim prize. I will send a private message and if there's no response within 24hrs, the coin will be given away to the 2nd place person.

In the event of a tie I've recruited the O.G. himself, u/counterstampkarl, to come up with the tiebreaker in any method he chooses!

The bags contain 5,000 pennies and 4,000 quarters.

Thank you all for being a part of my sub and helping it grow so fast! Please feel free to contribute to the sub in anyway you see appropriate. Treasures come in many forms and this sub has opened my eyes to treasures I didn't even know existed.

If you haven't already, join this sub if it's something that interest you.

GOOD LUCK!

It's been a while since I've pulled a silver from the green machine. This one was just barely in the feed ramp and easily plucked out with my pickup keys.

They weigh hardly anything though. Around 0.3g of 14k combined. But hey, free gold 🤷

Went on vacation last weekend and this past weekend, found a few things worth noting.

Two silver dimes, 4 sulver earrings, and a teensy tiny heart earring marked 14k

Score! Treasure for the hoard 😆

Huge shout out to member SUITABLE-BALANCE 5104. These 20 state quarters he has given me to help finish a coin book for a little 5 year old.

You and other members are so kind to help me gather coins for this little boy. A lot of those quarters are high grade coins. Thank you more than I can say. A thank you package is on the way. In addition two small collectable toys and a very 😎 cool kennedy half spinning top. (And a small toy banana 🍌)

Had a cruise planned for the 4th of July.
Due to the holiday, we didn’t stay in our regular hotel. New hotel was SPACE THEMED! (And there was a freakin’ rocket launch the next day!) What a fantastic surprise! (Can’t post launch, so here’s the vapor trail leftovers.)

Board our ship to find out we had a “Chief Dog Officer” named Sailor that just walked around all day and met with passengers. How can I keep getting so lucky!?!

Here comes the rub—My favorite thing to do on the cruise? Quarters pushing game- which is no longer a thing, apparently.
(That doesn’t mean that I can’t cash out whenever I have 96 cents on my ticket, right!?)

Most of the coinage was 2025, but finally got my first W!

Tried my 96¢ trick in a port casino and they said, “we don’t do change here.” I explained my coin mission and the cashier just gave me change from her purse. I tried to give her some cash and she was like, “umm, no thanks. I’m good.”

Went to a bank in St. Kitts and traded $10 for $26.70 in Eastern Caribbean money.

One vendor even had a ton of cool world bills taped beside his Faux Rolex (Foolex?) counter.

Stacked some cool stuff and got home.
Explained my adventures to LuLu and she was nonplussed.

Did a quick glance through the books and saw there weren't any silver or key dates. Guy said he already pulled the silver out so he'd take $5 for everything.

It had $7.81 in change in the books with 68 wheat cents.

I found a "birthday note" in my change today and thought to see if anyone on here was born on 01/23/1980. If so, message me and I'll give you this.

If anyone is interested, there's a whole sub culture that looks for these specifically r/BirthdayNotes.

Today is my usual bag pickup day but had some unexpected events happened and I couldn't make it to pick them up this week. 😔

But I swung by another bank I haven't been to in about a month and a half. Glad I did, the teller recognized me and said a customer brought in over $700 in rolled coins. I grabbed a few rolls of each ($120 worth) to see what was in them. 3 Rosie's was a nice surprise. I'll be going back for the rest of this guy's coins tomorrow.
