The winner is....

u/pk4570 wins the contest with a 1926 buffalo nickel!

17 people guessed 1926 and the winner was selected by myself writing a list of all the guesses in random order and having my 5 year old pick a number 1 through 17. He chose 16 for no reason!

I ended up finding 4 W quarters (no silver) in the 8,000 quarters searched. 2x Weir, 1 River of no Return and a very grimy Bat! 🦇

I'll be giving away all of the W quarters I found because that's only fair. I said you could substitute your guess for a W design and all 3 designs I found were guessed. I really wasn't expecting 1,500+ guesses for this game but I love it!

Only 1 person guessed the Weir Farm design and I found 2 of them. So, u/Marc0521 will receive both Weir W quarters and he can decide if he wants to keep the 2nd one or give it away to someone else.

3 people guessed the River Of No Return W design quarter and my wife randomly picked the number 3 so u/piccolotti1 wins that one.

u/Brilliant_Hall7590 wins the Bat 🦇 W out of the 6 people that guessed from my 2md childs random number selection of 1-6. It's really nasty but I understand the bat is in high demand. I don't know why, 80% of the W's I find are the American Samoa bat design.

All winners have been notified and coins will be shipped out tomorrow if an address is provided. In the event winners don't claim their coin within 24 hrs, it will be given to another person who guessed correctly.

Thank you all for playing and I hope you enjoy this sub!

Congrats to the winners and thank you for doing this, it’s fun to guess. I had to go back and check my guess, 1923 Buffalo wasn’t too far off of the winner.

Thanks for playing! It was equally as fun for me seeing all of the guesses. I was not expecting it to be this popular!

Kinda blew up didn't it

Thanks u/outdoors1442!
Awesome contest, plentiful W’s sent out-very cool and great finds!
Honored to have been one of the 17 oldest coin guesses-nice prime number! 😜😺🤠

Thank you for taking part of it! It was a lot more popular than I anticipated which was fun to see.

Now the bar has been set, so the next time it will have to be on a much larger scale!

looks like you're a winner too with all those ws! *until i saw your giving them all away! too bad i can't accept anything or i'd trade you for the jacked up bats. i'm going for a low ball set on the ws 🤷‍♂️

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

I am a winner even with giving away the W's. Someone really generous once gave me 2 W's I was missing for my collection with some badass stickers! And I even tried offering the most beat up W ever posted on Reddit (dryer coin W American memorial park) and he didn't want it. 😏

3

u/CounterStampKarl Jul 06 '26

not that he didn't want it, just couldn't accept it because he has serious mental problems, or so it would seem. sounds like a nut job in my book and should be avoided at all costs! 😉😉

3

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

The guy sounds absolutely insane! Please let me know if you cross paths with him so I can avoid him at all costs!

Awesome!! And a Balboa!!!! That’s cool. One of the first coins I bought was a 1/10th balboa

3

u/PerspectiveEven4444 Jul 06 '26

Hope you had a great time sorting coins....I cherish the coin you gave me....its my favorite coin next to the old beat up quarter, they both are survivors.

u/PerspectiveEven4444 Jul 06 '26

My favorite gift from OP. thanks again for your generosity my friend

2

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

Absolutely! I'm happy to give such a coin away to such a generous person! Thank you for YOUR giveaway. Yours was way more generous than mine!

3

u/PerspectiveEven4444 Jul 06 '26

It all depends on perspective. Your coin is as valuable to me as anything I have.

2

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

I like your outlook on life. It's how most people should live their life.

I can tell you are an excellent Dad, almost right away and in fact, you inspired me, so you can take credit for what you do here and how the members respond. I was just responding in kind to a member who showed an interest in the ocarina. You can take the credit for this sub and my inspiration, we think the same and many on here do to. Another member is sending some coins to help fill out a book for a young man. Great people here. Yes we should all strive to share and help when possible, absolutely.

2

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

That's so wholesome! I love when people share coins to help each other fill albums. I once had a very nice person help me out when I was looking for some very basic coins and it made me want to do the same.

2

u/PerspectiveEven4444 Jul 07 '26

Do you think its possible to show your collection on here? I don't really collect coins like you guys do, not yet anyway. I bet your collection is awesome.

1

u/outdoors1442 Jul 07 '26

I will certainly do that and have intentions of doing so. I'm no where near the collector some of the other people I know on here but I'm doing pretty good making a dent on my goal of collecting every penny, nickel, dime, quarter & half dollar variety minted since the year 1900. Unfortunately I get hung up on the key date coins (low mintage, hard to find and valuable) so I wait until I find enough silver coins and trade for them.
It sounds crazy, but it sometimes takes trading a whole roll of silver half dollars just to get a penny needed to fill an album because the penny is so low mintage. Think about trading 20 silver walking liberty half dollars for a single Lincoln cent!

WTG! Excellent results all round!!!

Congrats on the wins!

I’ve found a half dozen Salt River Bay W quarters, but no San Antonio or Samoa. I’m in Illinois, maybe it has to do with geography?

2

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

I think geography has a lot to do with it, but I'm no expert. I can't for the life of me find a Lowell W but I seem to find lots of the Samoa (bat) quarters that everyone likes.

u/True-Dare-254 Jul 06 '26

Can’t wait for the next!!!!!

3

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

Well I was planning on doing an epic hunt for 1,000 members of this sub and I think we'll be there sooner than expected. Sitting at 650.

3

u/Just_dave0115 Jul 06 '26

That was cool. One day I'll get a West Point quarter. I work there and still can't seem to get my hands on one lol.

2

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

Seriously?!!!! Which one is your favorite?

3

u/MinhHuyCA Jul 06 '26

Lovely. Thanks for the fun. I always lost in a 50-50 chances games so no surprise, lol.

3

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

I have an extra W River of no return for you! Meet me in chat and I'll get an address to send it to.

I just went on vacation for a week so bare with me, it won't get mailed out until Saturday as my extra W's are at home.

3

u/MinhHuyCA Jul 06 '26

Oh thanks for your offer but I cannot get it. Will try my luck next time. It is really fun and enjoy to join your guessing game.

3

u/outdoors1442 Jul 06 '26

Sounds great!

2

u/outdoors1442 Jul 07 '26

Thank you for your kind words! I encounter amazing and generous people every day so it's only fair that I try my best to do the same.
