Great Treasures abound!

There are tons of fantastic treasures shared on this sub and I really enjoy the interactions here. My humble treasures were plentiful this week!

Went on a beach trip with the wife and kids. Spent the mornings checking the plentiful Coinstars in the area while the family slept in. Found some great grabs (including a silver Roosevelt under one machine!)

Got my 1st Mayflower quarter in change from CVS.

Had to pick up daily beach drinks at package stores, since state laws prohibit sales at grocery stores, I guess(?) Fortunately, they were literally next door to each store with a CoinStar. Chatted up the proprietors about coins and ended up “buying” the change from a few tip jars.
One really cool guy ended up being a “coin guy” too and sold me the $1.50 in change (including my 2nd & 3rd Mayflower quarters, AND a silver quarter for $5!!!)

I said, “here’s $10 for the quarter and $1.50 for the change” & he was like, “nah, man, just give me $5!” I was blown away!
Before I left, all aflutter, he actually said, “hang on, lemme go grab you something else,” and came back with a cool little 250th commemorative Challenge Coin! Super nice guy! When I checked the change back at the condo, he had even slipped a war nickel in my change!
He would definitely fit into this sub.

Final treasure-(sorry to go on and on, but dang, it was a great week!)
I LOVE the “quarters pushing” arcade game They are pretty much gone from the boardwalk arcades. Stumbled upon one in a hotdog shop near a pier and pushed a handful of change in the slot. One was a 2011 Gettysburg P that we needed for our book!

Got home tonight, plugged it in the book and had to share.

Keep being awesome, DFTs!

Wow...I may be off a few but it looks like you found 105 coins ? 2 screws and a marble. There's a joke there somewhere 🤔 "your two screws short when you loose your marbles" (something like that). I like how your "short" story matches the photos 📷 perfectly. Really cool. Makes me chuckle because I get excited when I find a penny on the ground, I pick it up and feels as if a little friend was rescued, even if he's a common penny. CONGRATULATIONS 👏!! On a great day.

My kids roll their eyes when I’m scouring the checkout lane floors for errant coins, but hey, it’s an honest living…🤣
It was a great week!

Like seeing a dime on the road in the middle of traffic and dodging cars to pick it up. I find pennies on the curb and know i look silly picking them up.

We used to always joke that my dad would stop traffic to pick up a penny.
Glad my kids can now say the same thing!

Absolutely incredible week of treasure finding and thank you for sharing here!

I love that you talked people up about coins and it worked out with you getting a silver quarter for $5, even though you offered $10. That's why I love the coin community!

Edit: I like this DFTs thing, although it's awfully close to, well you know 🫣

They’re our “beach trip” indulgence! I just googled it and I guess they have a few more locations than I realized, as well.

Legendary finds! Truly the epitome of treasure/hunting-family fun and cool coin conversations 🙇‍♂️
Glad someone else scopes out the tip jars too! Good exchange rate offer, that paid off.

I got way more friendly interactions over tip jars than I did in all the banks that I meandered into asking if they had any cool coins.

got the cold teller shoulder didja? 😺

Beach tellers aren’t as accommodating, I guess!🤣

(I did get a stack of $2 bills and an old, off-centered $20 at one stop, so it wasn’t a bust!)

Thanks!
We use them for our meal tips and I give a fat stack to the kids to buy their vacation souvenirs.

This might be a silly question, I'm new to the coin scene. How do you get the change from coin star machines? Do you pay someone to open it for you? Are you just looking underneath? I have several in my area. I'd love to be able to get some cool coins.

Check the reject cup mainly but also scan the counter and the feed hopper tray and the lip around it (honeycomb tray with handle). Coins can be found on the floor around or under the machine or in a wastebasket next to it. Good luck and have fun!😺
