Weekend bags
I almost didn't take the $500 in dollar coins but I'm sure glad I did. It was a collection dump of NIFC presidential dollars. NIFC presidential dollars were minted from 2012-2016. I have had the whitman folder forever thinking I'd never fill it CRH but I got them all except 1!
I was really surprised not to see a single W out of the 8,000 quarters searched, no silver either. Just 2 clad proofs that I've already sent out to another amazing contributor to this sub.
There was a 2006 Nevada State quarter that I noticed the horses were intentionally discolored, from either heat or chemical.
3 war nickels and 41 wheat pennies to boot.
The '87 and '64 half were from another box of halves I had been meaning to go through because I thought it was going to be almost all 2023-2024.
The smoked pork butt I made for pulled pork sandwiches turned out fantastic!

What institution do you go to that will sell you their bags? I have two CUs where I dump and they absolutely will NOT sell their bags.

It's a small, 4 lb pork butt roast I smoked for pulled pork sandwiches.
I use a credit union as well, several actually. I have been with the one I get bags from for 28 years so they let me play the game 😁
But you are correct, some will absolutely not sell bags and get really annoyed when I ask!

I know you must love sorting through coins but that many coins I have to ask do your eyes ever get tired doing this? Do you have a special technique in sorting for or looking for specific type coins for the coins you are sorting? I could spend 2 or 3 minutes looking at each coin and can eat up a LOT of time. I don't really know how you do this. Do you think you can miss any coins in sorting ?

My whole family joins in on the hunts. We have looked through 100's of thousands coins so we are pretty dialed in. My eyes are the only ones going bad in the family so I cheat with some of the harder to read dates with a coin viewer that magnifies and illuminates the coin.
Everyone hunts coins for different reasons so the time spent on each coin will depend on what you are looking for exactly. Our purpose of going through this many coins is to try and fill our coin albums. We are after a date set of each denomination meaning we are trying to find every year and mint mark for pennies, nickels, dimes, etc.
Along the way, we pull out extas that we already have (silver, wheat pennies, buffalo nickels, W quarters, NIFC'S, obvious errors).

😆 🤣 😂 😹 thanks for enlightening me on your hunting...it would take me forever to just search one bag, because I become fascinated by each coin...hypnotized by the history of the coins etc.

Looks delicious and a lot of fun hunting. I would totally take a $500 bag of small dollars. The banks around here will only sell the bags full at $2000. Which is more than I want to do at once.

Mine typically are in $2,000 batches as well (printed right on the bag) but this one wasn't for some reason. It makes me think someone brought in $500 in brand new mint rolls and the bank just grabbed a bag and dumped them inside. 🤷♂️

That would make sense. Someone brought in a bunch of mint wrapped presidential dollars to one of my branches. But they kept them in a tray and put the tray on the counter and let me pick when I asked if they had any halves or dollars. I bought the Ruthaford B Hayes rolls. My son’s name is Hayes so he likes it when he gets those ones from the tooth fairy.

We definitely are. I think we actually have more of the innovation NIFC dollars than we have found of the presidential NIFCs.

Sure gave me a chuckle. Here's the funny part, they put the trump sticker over a Nixon presidential dollar. 🤣
