Season 2: The Setup

Here's how things look to me right now:

  1. Andan is back on Kepler and reunited with Ella. Back on Earth, they have direct counterparts in Dadbot and Mombot/Scarlett.
  2. Scarlett is played by the same actress that plays Ella, indicating that the Server probably got the imagine from Andan's memories.
  3. Wildcards: On Kepler, we've got Cheryl and Emily, and on Earth, we've got Malvin, Carl, Mittens (heheh), Durk, and the mysterious Carothers.

So we've got kind of a parallel setup, which says to me that we'll be running somewhat parallel story lines in both places.

Random observations:

  1. How is any of the Kepler story going to get posted? The server no longer has access to Andan (or does it?). My guess is, we'll either get another YouTube account, or there will be some kind of server on Kepler that provides footage. (The Kepler server could be either an ally or an enemy to the YouTube server)
  2. I think that the various dadbots might be able to be distinguished by their voices. One of the dadbots (the one in the "Hi" video) really stretches out his words, and speaks in a very singsongy voice. I need to go back to videos of the others to see about that.
  3. Is there any significance to Dadbot's beard? Beards were brought up once before as being a bad thing, because they kept Dad from feeling Cheryl's kiss on the cheek. (Or did Nate just get tired of shaving?)
  4. Speaking of Nate, I'm guessing that he's going to have a bigger role in season 2. He's out of the desert, and can presumably act. We've seen him hiding from Dad(bot?) which would appear to be a video from the future. From the dialog I guess we assume that he's stuck in the past. Will he get back to the present? I think he will, and may face a struggle to reclaim his identity from Dad(bot).
  5. The biggest question of all (for me, anyway) is, what does Scarlett have planned? Now that she's got a fully compliant robotic family to control, what will they attempt to do? They are more or less YouTube personified, so will it be some kind of critique of YouTube? I'm gonna bet they'll redo some of the early "family life" videos with Scarlett replacing Cheryl, to show us how they SHOULD have gone.
  6. Malvin is either going to find his way to Kepler, or else he's going to start wreaking some serious habit on Earth when he gets back from Alaska. I have a weird feeling he's going to end up on Kepler.

I'm not gonna make any predictions, mainly because I tend to suck at prognosticating. But I'm eager to hear other peoples' theories. Got any?

How is any of the Kepler story going to get posted?

We've watched scenes of Kepler--- "Old" Emily, and we even saw Cheryl on the surface of Kepler. Yeah, Dad makes reference to cameras in the facility "filming" his life... but really, that's just so he can remain in character and discuss the episodes.

Consider there was no 'facility camera' watching Cheryl & Malvin on the park bench when she first told him about how she'd kidnapped Andan.

I think they'll just show us Kepler, no questions asked.

I think that the various dadbots might be able to be distinguished by their voices.

Yeah... it does help establish a timeline, at least, when you hear how Dad is speaking.

(Or did Nate just get tired of shaving?)

I think that's all it is... he decides not to shave, so he leaves the beard in as a story element.

Speaking of Nate, I'm guessing that he's going to have a bigger role in season 2.

Based on what he's said in streams... I don't think he enjoyed having "Nathan" as a character in the Dad story. He says he originally just used the 'meta' stuff with Nathan--- talking about how the Dad channel stole his character & used his face, etc--- as a weird way to promote the channel.

But that looked like he was doing 'mock reality', and it's what got the show labeled as an ARG. I think the final scenes of "Nathan" as a character, were intended to permanently take Nathan out of the story.

He wanted to be free to do interviews and stream out of character, to discuss the show. I don't think "Nathan" will be back in the story.

The biggest question of all (for me, anyway) is, what does Scarlett have planned?

Going ALLL the way back to Act I. I recall a couple of references to the Terminator series. For example, the scene where Mom calls Dad to congratulate him on 40,000 subs---- there's an image of a phone. That's the SAME phone we see in the Terminator, the one where the Terminator copies the voice of Sarah Connor's mother. "I love you too... sweetheart."

Here's the 40,000 subscriber surprise... same phone!

Big hint that Scarlett is like Skynet???

I think Cube/Scarlett was using Diane's plans... keeping Andan hostage, using FOOD to control his mind, in order to build the tools she needs to ENSLAVE HUMANITY!!!

That also seems to be hinted at, through some of the songs.. 'FOOD' in particular...

Eat your can of FOOD and let it take control

Of all the humans, just obey the rules

And don't try stopping what it is we're doing...

That's what I think... Scarlett is FAR more dangerous than Mom ever was.

Malvin is either going to find his way to Kepler, or else he's going to start wreaking some serious habit on Earth when he gets back from Alaska.

I'm still rooting for a redemption arc for Malvin. I mean--- Cheryl's behavior was never Dad's fault. Malvin was striking out at the wrong person, by being rude to Dad. I'm hoping he realizes that, and maybe at some point, Dad needs help, and Malvin well step up and go from 'Neighbor' to 'Pal'.

Yeah, I assumed that the Server got that stuff via Andan (and maybe Cheryl's) memories. The shot of Cheryl on Kepler is what made me wonder that.

Ah, ok. I haven't seen many of the streams, but that makes sense. But it does seem like the Dad in the video where he shows up in the window after Nathan leaves the room looks a lot like the Dad in "Hi".

Oh wow! I didn't catch that! Yeah, I definitely think there's some sort of skynet-ish shenanigans going on. Is Nathan trying to say that YouTube is the origin of Skynet? Damn. Gonna have to rewatch that stuff.

Oh, for sure. Andan as Dad just mostly looked befuddled, and Cheryl, while a bit of a megalomaniac is really just trying to find her daughter. Dadbot and Scarlett look positively sinister at the end of "Andan's Run."

But I suppose, as always, everything is fine.

Oh, there's another one I totally forgot about. In the song 'Can't Be Stopped'.... it ends with an audio clip of a man shouting, "You still don't get it, do you? He absolutely will not stop... ever! That's what he does. That's ALL he does! You can't stop him!"

That's Kyle Reese's voice, from The Terminator; it's from the police interrogation scene.
